So, what's the deal with NFC?

So, I know the Elite x3 has NFC, but what's the deal with possible future wallet support?
I am hoping that Windows Mobile Wallet gets more involved in the near future and if I were to switch from my 950xl to the Elite I would definitely welcome the use of a digital wallet wherever and whenever I can.
