After I installed a new sim card I couldn't get photos to rotate when I turned my phone to landscape. I found a solution that worked: When you're in your photo album swipe down from the top of the screen and you get a menu. There is an item called rotation lock. Just click on this and turn it off and photos will rotate again.

either it's a glitch or somehow rotation lock got enabled when swiping down on the action centre.
