Speed colors are backwards!

When you use GPS to track a run it shows your route on a map with color coding. Green is snail/slow and red is cheetah /fast. Surely this is backwards. Green is go, red is stop. Green should be faster and red slower!
 
I can see it working the other way. Green being "normal" and red being "performance mode" or near the limit. If the base color was anything other than green, I'd think people would expect red to be fast or performance.
 
It's to make your feel better after a run. You look at your map and think to yourself "I'm so fast, look at all that green"
