Yes it matter. Matter a lot.Specially after Wp8.1
old X20 series suffering from serious performance issues like" Loading" or Resuming screen even in opening Settings.
Official apps(music, video etc) are becoming specs hungry and now need atleast 1GB RAM for avg performance and yet not able to perform as good as it was in Wp8.

Current WP isn't same as old OS. It's now specs hungry as Android.
reset and don't restore and the phone will behave like you got it fresh. But I won't lie. After 8.1, my 620 hasn't been the same however, there was no cyan at the time so I don't know if they are still problems now.

Because around those times Xbox Music, Video and games sucked. There was a lot of performance issues. I'm unsure if video is OK now but I'm surprised that they still haven't updated the Games App. It takes forever to load.

there are positives and negatives for both phones, the 930 yes is fast and has a better screen and the camera is slightly better. the downside is no sd, so glance.
the 830 has glance and sd card support. it is slightly slower on day to day stuff. the camera does a pretty good job, it is lighter and thinner than the 930 and of course if you are in north America it will get full lte coverage.

I really don't think it is that big of a downgrade from the 930, only if you are playing a lot of games would you see it that way.

I have been struggling with this decision for the last two weeks. I have decided to go with the 830. The main reason being it will fit all my needs. I would get the 930 but it is a little out of my price range, plus I won't need all its features.

Has anybody switched from a 930 to 830. Denim hasn't fixed my main issues with this phone(heat and battery life) so im thinking about switching it for an 830. I want to know mostly in terms of screen and camera how much worse is the 830 compared to the 930 I mostly think ill miss this screen the most but idk I would like to hear from somebody

Hello there. I've face this problem with my L920, L925 and L930 and I can assure you that its 80% software related.

What happens is, one of the app hangs in background and causes massive battery drain which then related to the phone heating up. In my case the app in question was the " Facebook Messenger App ". The worse part about this problem is, that the problematic app will not show up in battery saver or in fact it will just show up as a normal running app.

Another thing that causes the problem is a app gets stuck on an endless loop trying to geo locate your position. Apparently there is a major bug in the OS that is causing such problems and the fix for it if not mistaken is the " Denim " update.

What you can do is the following:
1. Format phone
2. Do not restore any apps
3. Download all essential app back
4. Monitor the phone battery and heating issue.
5. If there is non proceed installation of other apps.
6. Turn off location for a day and see if it helps with the battery issue.
7. You will know which app is causing the problem as the phone will suddenly heat up.

If you find that all apps are fine. Then its probably down to the battery which can be faulty. A bad battery discharges quickly and also heats the phone up.

If you can see the image above. That's an app that has just crashed and now my phone is heating up -.-

My concern is the processor, not now but in the future. How well will WP10 run on the S400, we don't know. We already know hey Cortana will be missing, who knows, maybe more.

When I spend $$$$ for a device I want some longevity, just wasn't convinced the 830 great as it is would offer the same experience a year from now on a near two year old chipset.

True but next flagship will have probably a 805 or 810 chipset so how will the 930 do in 2 years?

Thing is the icon is already a year old almost, it has a 2014 flagship chipset so I would expect good performance on 2015 updates scaling down in performance in 2016 where the S400 can expect a faster derogation. Exact timelines are obviously debatable but it's fair to expect the S800 performing better for longer.

The 930 wil be doing just fine. Is being said the Windows 10 will be available to all wp8 Lumias so the 930 with is SD 800 will have no problems and you saw this in the past, there isn't a single Lumia device the get lag with the OS updates even with less power than the SD 400, so until you get limited by hardware like the upgrade from wp 7.8 to wp 8 there's no reason to think the the 930 wouldn't be fine in two years.

I disagree on the lag, my old 920 running an old S4 did not run 8.1 without alot of resuming, pauses and long picture taking. Sure it ran, it didn't stutter or act janky but an increasingly frustrating experience non the less leading me to upgrade.

The resuming screen is not just hardware is about the app itself, if is not optimised or does no have Fast App Resume. I don't see any problems on my 625 or 925 with the OS updates, still smooth and I dont see any other OS with the ability of update an old device and give the same smooth experience.

I switched from a 930 to an 830 simply because of the lightness and nice feeling in the hand. also prefer the removable back cover and sd card support.

The 830 should have had all the specs of the 930 and the 930 should have been ditched and kept as an exclusive in the US (Icon)

I switched from my Icon to the HTC M8 for Windows. Lots of feedback telling me this was a "downgrade", but not for me. For me, the only thing better on the Icon was the camera. I'm not into photography and the camera on the M8 suits me fine. The M8 is a flagship phone and I have not experienced any problems with it at all.
