How to get notified automatically about update of installed applications?

if you pin the store to your start screen, then it will display a number on the tile which is the number of updates available. However, some people have faced the problem of the number not being displayed or not showing as "x" updates available even when they open the Store. Try it out.

I have the opposite problem, after I update an app the store keeps showing a tile count of an update available and when I open it and select update the tile count disappears.
But it comes back after a few minutes.
so pissing off -.-
