Alot has been said about the new features in WP8 itself but a key thing for me is how to upgrade from my Titan to Lumia 920 without having to start from scratch in terms of downloading all the apps, transfer contacts, not to mention my saved games and other apps data stored on the current phone.

As much as I hate itunes for dragging on system resources at least when I buy a new ipod touch it transfer everything over....I hope MS are making some software that will just backup and enable me to transfer everything from new phone to old.

Create a backup into your Zune and just download old content to your new phone? That option has been in Zune for like, forever :p

I didn't think Zune downloaded all of your apps and data for them!!
When my Titan crashed and I had to do a wipe it restored my pictures and stuff from last backup but not a thing for the apps I had installed or their data!!

Ill try it with my Lumia 900, but at least with my gf's 710 it worked just fine

Hmmph, the media content seems to be backing up with Zune but Apps dont, however every app you have ever downloaded should be found from your Microsoft account (aka. @live.com) so when you go to Windows Phone (United States) and you log on to your account, you can also see all your downloaded, bought or deleted apps and just dowload them there again...

so here is the quick link if you can acces it Sovellusten poistaminen ja uudelleenasentaminen | Windows Phone -ohjeet (Suomi)

Yes this is what I had to do when my Titan had to be wiped, the point is I don't want to nor should have to spend hours doing this and in the process losing all of my saved game and other app data.

Actually the fastest way is to go to Windowsphone.com then in the top right corner there you see your phone. Click the phone and see buy-history or something like that (Dont know the english word, it says Ostohistoria which is finnish and means Buy-history). Then it will ask for your live id so just log in and you can view all your bought and downloaded apps

I shouldn't have to do this in this day and age.
There should be full backup and migration software so you don't have to go through the painful process of download each individual app and starting from scratch with them losing your last years of data.

I hope MS has considered current WP7 users and made something to migrate ALL phone content or select what to migrate to new devices as well as make this possible in manual backups not just when doing a software update.

I have that, sure it helps a bit but not a great deal...I can save maybe 10 minutes installing with this but it doesn't save my data or game saves.
Zune (or whatever replacement) should be able to do a full phone back up - this is all i want.

P.S. appreciate your suggestions but I want MS to consider current users and include something simple in their software, it should be a painless transition to upgrade.

Yeah, well tried my best, sorry if I could not help :(

Sent from my Lumia 900 using Board Express

You will lose all your apps and game progress sorry. But the contact stuff will be transfer easily, but you will still have to link all the contacts by hand. It should take about an hour.

I hope not...
itunes lets you take it across to new ipod or iphone.
Android phones can transfer all this across.
If WP has no solution then it's pretty un-user friendly of them.
I have kept faith hoping that they will have some better backup solution ongoing but it has yet to materialise.

or wait till the 29th when MS officially shows WP8... we haven't even heard anything about the zune software switch (zune isn't part of wp8)

Sucks having to start any and all games from level 1.

Not sure about that with iphones either completely. If you have an iphone 3gs and want to get an iphone 5 I do not think you will be able to simply restore your 5 to how your 3gs was. Now, if you have a 4 up you should be able to update to the newest OS and then get the 5 and restore from that file since both phones can run the same OS. This is one crucial reason why MS should have made old phones upgradeable to wp8. Upgrade, then create a full phone backup (I hope wp8 has this feature by now) and then restore your brand new phone from that old phone image.
