Could not get it to work...solved!

LG Quantum here, was running update 7392 for quite some time.

I tried many times to get this trick to work. My wife's Quantum took to the trick fine (got it on my second time) but it would never work for me. A couple of times it looked like it work work. I would switch wifi off, and the Zune software would sit there on "checking for updates" for quite some time. By some time I mean sometimes it would sit there for 30 minutes trying to check, and it would fail complaining about losing the connection between my phone and the computer (although I'm using a solid micro USB cable, one from an Amazon Kindle that worked fine with my wife's phone).

I kept trying and trying and I got no where. I tried with wifi on and off (on the phone), airplane more and off, etc. and I would get nowhere. I probably tried more than 60 times throughout the week.

I then remembered how I originally picked up nodo. I did the operator hack where you modify a registry key to remove ATT-US from the phone back when AT&T was delaying the phone from getting nodo. Low and behold, I opened up the registry on my wife's Quantum and compared it to mine, and I never put that key back in. Once I put the key back in, on the first attempt at the Mango trick and my phone was telling me that an update is available.

It is now updating as smooth as can be. I just wanted to let people know in case they are having trouble with this, as they might be in the same position I was in.

That's been addressed earlier in the thread. No, you cannot force the update with Windows Connector for Mac.

I finally got tired of waiting for sprint and decided to force the mango update... still updating but so far so good. Shame on you sprint for not including me in your initial roll out.

I forced the update, cause I didn't want to wait for Bell to update my phone. It took me about 10 tries, but it worked. My LG Quantum feels like a brand new phone. :)

btw, I have an htc trophy

this one:

1. Start Zune
2. Turn off Data connection and Wifi on the Phone
3. Connect the Phone with the PC (USB)
4. Start the update search in Zune
5. About 3 seconds later, disconnect your PC from the internet (Turn WLAN off).
6. Zune finds NoDo-Update. Press OK.
7. Connect to the internet again and install the update.

Should work for all devices that can be updated by the VPN / dialup solution.

If it fails at point 5, try other timepoints for disconnecting, or try
it again disconnected.

Updated just finished. Zune reported that update 7403 was available but after going through the update process, it woke up with Mango....cool! It looks like it killed 3G but I think I saw an easy fix for that here somewhere.

The Trophy update was available via the 'trick' at least a week ago. I know because I had a Trophy that I updated using this method.

I have the HD7S now and the trick does not work for this phone.

Did not work the first time

I tried the forced upgrade with turning off the Wi-Fi and the Data. But it told me that it was up to date. So, then I re-booted the phone and then was able to get an update.

So, you turn off the Wi-Fi and the Data
Re-boot the phone to clear the memory (just like a computer)
Open Zune
Connect your phone
Click update
Quickly disconnect your internet connection
(It should say that there is an available update)
Then re-connect your internet connection.

Samsung Focus SGH-i917

Have had the upgrade since the day it was released and have had not one issue with it.
Running like a champ...

I tried the 3-count & it never worked. Made numerous attempts with longer & shorter intervals and it finally worked after about the tenth time with an instantaneous disconnect. I literally had one hand on the mouse and the other on the Ethernet cable, disconnecting it a fraction of a second after the mouse-click.

YMMV.
