Finally, after 10min 40sec the phone restarted and is starting step 8 of 9. The windows splash screen now has the square logo.

Finally worked for me. Took about 5 or 6 tries.

I have a Trophy on Verizon located in Iowa. I got an update notification about 2 hours ago and updated to 7392. Then Zune has been telling me I'm up to date.

I tried this method and it failed 5 or so times, then I got the update notification to go to 7403, which I'm doing now.

I clicked update, then pulled the ethernet plug. I had cellular data and wi-fi on my phone switched off.

After I got the update notification (in Zune and on my phone simultaneously), I plugged my ethernet back in and click update. About 75% through step 7 of 7403 now.

Seems like the firmware does come even with forcing Mango.

7403 is defently installing. BackUp is in progress
Hope the mango update will be shown without that. otherwise there will be more tries xD

Yep my phone just installed that update, took about 15 minutes then it auatomatically searched for new updates and is now installing 7720.68 MANGO BABY

worked on the first try...didn't even disable my phone's wi-fi (though there is no wi-fi signal here at work), just unplugged the ethernet. on step 7 of 10 atm...yay

Updated to 7392 first. (Really? I didn't have this before? Hmmm...)

Updating to 7403 now. Had to re-do the trick to get this second update.

I'm headed for 7720, right? That's what I'm looking for?

(Once I get this to work on my phone, I'll go through the process again for my wife, my daughter, and my son. Yup. We're an all WP7 family.)

I got 7403... I skipped that because I have no idea what that is. I'm going to keep trying to see the 7.5 pop up.

It found 7720 right after 7403 finished for me.

For me, I got 7392 earlier today in the normal process, then got no update notices.

Tried this trick 5 or 6 times and finally got an update notice for 7403...that installed and then it started on 7720 without me doing anything after 7403 was done.

It did the 7403 update first, then automatically went straight to 7220 update with no input from me.

says on the front page it could go either way, you might have to do the process for each update.
