Negri Electronics seems to have an 'unlocked' 1020 for AT&T -- Search results for: 'nokia 1020'

Would this even be possible? I'm assuming anything made with the AT&T brand will be AT&T locked. The Microsoft store does not seem to have unlocked versions off-contract.

Expansys usa also has them. I'm torn between getting one of these or the 925 :-S

I would wait and see if a Rogers version is announced, that will have the proper bands if you want to use it in the US and will support Tmo and Att fully.

I'm worried that it might not be unlocked if it's the AT&T model. I also wonder if AT&T will give me the unlock code if I buy it off-contract. Need it unlocked because I'll be traveling.

Edit: I chatted with an agent who said AT&T will be able to provide unlock codes, but I'm not 100% sure of that info as well.

In the specs, it shows:

2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
4G Network LTE 700 / 1700 / 2100

I'm not seeing 1700 under HSDPA, making me think that if you're in a T-Mobile area that hasn't yet been refarmed, you're going to be stuck with 2G

It could be an import. In most places around the world, you buy the phone and carriers just provide service, so the concept of a locked phone is unknown. India, for example, is one of Nokia's major markets and I'm sure they'll be making unlocked units for that kind of market.

You're correct. At the moment we're not expecting this unit to support T-mobile bands, due to the fact that it doesn't support T-mobile 3G/4G bands. If any of you have any other questions, let us know. You can also reach us at support@negrielectronics.com for more detailed questions you may have.

I guess the question I would ask is, are you even expecting a Rogers version of the 1020?

Rogers sucks at supporting Nokia, I doubt it, they don't even have 925 or 928. I went to the store today and they didn't have the 920 in stock either. More over, most employees at futureshop/best buy don't even know much about lumias

Unfortunately a Rogers version is the only one that fully supports T-Mobile"s bands s, is more easily unlocked so its the best option for some. And they don't need to carry the 925 if they will have the 1020, 928 is a Verizon exclusive so not carrying those devices is not really that important.

I've pre-ordered from Negri Electronics too, expecting it to work for SingTel's 3G (Singapore).
Will update you once I've received the device.

Does anyone know the release date for the 1020 ? If it's sometime during the next week I will exchange my 925 that I just ordered from expansys.com for a 1020. They have a 15 day return/exchange policy. Rumors say it will be 22 july or 26. The sooner I know it the better it is because I can then cancel my order for the 925 because they havent shipped it yet.

There aren't any rumors for the release date, there is an official release date of July 26th though =).

The T Mo message boards are saying it will work if you live in one of their LTE areas, because they have 1700/2100 on 4G LTE and "refarmed" 1900 on the 3G/4G band.

I'm really confused. I want the phone but don't want to come out of pocket $700+ and be SOL.

Try asking in the 920 forum for peoples experience with an att 920 in your area, the 1020 should perform the same and give you an idea if its worth it.
