Upgraded to 830, feel disappointed....

People who bought that thing should be disappointed, unless they got it during that $200 sale.
I am very happy with "that thing" that was rightfully praised here on WPCentral when it was released. I am not disappointed and nobody can tell me that I ought to be. Your post was fine until you had to add that slap in the face at the end. I respect the opinion of the OP.

It was overpriced and underpowered. It was barely a step up from a 2012 device, in terms of performance. A Lumia 920 would have offered a comparable experience for half the launch price of the 830, if you bought it on eBay or something (and I've seen the 920 under $175 in the past month or two there). Maybe I shouldn't say anyone SHOULD be disappointed, but I would certainly understand such a sentiment. IF you didn't have a Windows Phone before, and you got a non-launch price on the 830, it's probably an OK device. As someone who got a 920 in 2012 and was dying to upgrade in 2014, that all AT&T got was basically the same phone in a new body made me mad.

Also, I'd strongly disagree with "rightful praise," from a pro-MS site. It's very rare that a product is spoken badly of in a WC review. The 830 maybe deserved praise as a device just under mid-range phones, but it should have been ripped for the price point (which mirrored the 920's launch price).

I've had mine for 2 days and absolutely love it. I also own a 920, a 1020, and a 635. No display lag here. I did start up fresh and did not use a back up profile.

My experience as well. Maybe you should have upgraded to an amoled phone?

We made the switch from the L920 (which I liked) to the L830 and I am not looking back. Once in a while I check and try my old L920, which now belongs to my son and I'm not disappointed that we made that switch. I agree with you that it was on the expensive side, but after selling the fitbit for a good price that wasn't bad anymore.

Wow...someone complains and people rush into conclusions. I would actually prefer people's opinion who have owned the 830 and a comparable device (920) in this case. The phone is NOT slow, at least in day to day tasks. It is slightly under powered than the S4 but it also has a better camera, a better front camera (both are bad, but better than the 920), way better battery life, and the newer chipset does help making processes feel snappy (you can compare a Lumia 630 SD400 to an S4 while opening/resuming XBOX Music).

@OP: If you are having trouble then either you have a lemon or you are not setting up things correctly, yes setting up your software does contribute a lot to how your device runs in the long run. You can try reflashing the firmware (not OTA update or hard reset but reflash) and see if it solves your issues, if not then get it replaced. I have had a prototype 830 which turned out to be the worst Windows phone I had ever owned (I have owned low end devices too) but MS was generous enough to replaced it and now with Denim, this is better than my 920 (still one of the best Windows Phones ever built)

I read a lot of this thread and for the life of me I don't get how this happened. I go to buy a car. I pick out the models I'm interested in. I go for test drives. Not just one or even two. I might take the model I am going to plunk my money down on 10 separate times before I'm comfortable. F 'em. Its my money and my comfort. So I get the car I want. The same goes for phones. I'll read reviews, visit phone stores and spend time evaluating then I make a buy. But that didn't happen with the OP and now a post on "buyers remorse". You begin with its build quality? Seriously? smh

I did a hard reset last night and this time chose to do a fresh install and not use the restore backup from my 920. Glance and double tap seem a little better. Maybe it's just in my head. I can live with it. The display just does not seem as quick to respond as the 920. Not a big deal. At least this phone still has Glance and wireless charging built in. Hopefully the full Denim update will help! :asleep:

On the other hand, I have not noticed any heat issues like the 920 had and battery life is much better. I'm getting used to the look & feel of it. Great device. Getting my Incipio Octane case today so I'll see how it is with that. Right now the phone is too slippery to hold compared to my yellow 920.

found another bug, when someone rings me there's no ringtone or vibrate? Anyone else?
that should work.
make sure it's not disabled under settings/notifications+actions. You can set actions for individual events (email, messaging, phone and more).
cheers

My sound is distorted only. The reason is the back cover. When I take it off it is clear.
odd, is there possibly something else covering the speaker grill opening on the cover other than the black screen on the inside? are all the holes open? If you got the phone with two covers, does it do the same with the other cover?

used mine for a few months but then returned to naked. Even though it's really not too thick and definitely provides better grip, I didn't like the extra layer covering the nice metal frame. I am only using it on bike rides.

So far I like the Incipio Octane case. Got it for $12 MS store online. Does not add much bulk to the phone and I love that it has the see through back. The sides make gripping the phone much better. The only issue as others have mentioned is the side buttons. Very sensitive especially the volume buttons. I don't know why they didn't just have cutouts for the actual phone buttons to show through the case. But it's not that bad.

Sounds like some of you fell for a marketing trap and believed in the "affordable flagship" garbage. 830 is an amazing phone for the $200 that I bought it for. It's my daily driver now and get complements on it all the time. It isn't a flagship but I would call it a premium midrange.

I'm not disappointed either. I knew exactly what I was buying and I knew that I'd be waiting for "Denim, The Final Chapter!" So far I love the phone, it's more than quick enough, decent camera and great battery life. It's an upgrade coming from a Lumia 822, a phone I did and still do appreciate. My 822 went two full years without a single hiccup.

I recently got a chance to play with an HTC One and while the phone seems to have a decent build quality and is definitely fast, I wouldn't have spent the extra cash for the performance bump. But, I don't play games, so the 830 is fine for me.

I purchased mine for an amount I was comfortable with. BUT I held it first, and messed with it. Happy with it to this day. It would have been nice to pay 200 dollars for it though.

At this point with new flagships coming eventually this year, the recent MS store $199 deal was the only way I'd take a chance on the 830. I wanted it badly right before Christmas 2014 and would have purchased it on AT&T Next 12 plan but was hoping for a holiday sale and/or the Full Denim update. Neither happened so I waited. After a few months of no Denim or sales I figured I'll just continue to use my almost 2 year old 920 until the flagship comes. But I'm happy with my new 830 so far. Not sure if it was worth $200 for me yet since I still have a perfectly good working 920. But full Denim would help!

I went from a L800, to a L900, to a L920, to a L830. I loved the build of the 920, but love the exclusiveness' of the L830 in OS updates. I wanted the L930, but wasn't available with LTE and the 1520 was way too big and didn't offer built-in Qi wireless charging...

I feel many owners/readers can see past the advertising "affordable flagship" tagline and see the 830 for what its is. Bear in mind, there aren't really much WP models to choose from.

The 930 a bit too dear, the 1520 a tad too large. The 73X without a camera button doesn't appeal to me at all. The 830 seems to have taken the best bits around. .. motion data sensors, Rich capture, removable battery, SD card slots, glance... into a solid constructed goodlooking decent phone

Agreed. If they had taken the processor, RAM, and camera from the 1520/930, and put it in the 830, left Glance and wireless charging intact, then made it available to more carriers, it could have been the perfect WP device. For 2014-15 anyway.
