USB portable HDD doesn't work with Continuum dock

I have a Lumia 950 and the HD-500 Display Dock for use with Continuum. The other day I plugged my Seagate 2TB portable hdd into the powered usb slot on the dock, but it says it won't work. The specific Seagate model is the SRD00F1. The dock's firware is up-to-date. Is there something I can do to get this to work?

Is the power too weak to power up your hdd? Can the hdd be recognized?
