WC 1M Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Curious minds must know, what is your limit for phones or does it depend on the phone?
The phone that becomes a daily driver does stay with me for a fairly long time. The spare line stuff maybe a couple of days to about 5 months now for the Idol 4s with Windows.

The $ amount I am willing to spend maxes out at $600.

That makes sense. Thank you for sharing.

As crazy as this sounds, I don't mind spending $850 on an iPhone 8+ because I know someone is going to give me 90% ROI when I sell it a year later. Can't do that with a Galaxy, them's the facts.

Pixel - Dec 2016 to Oct 2017
Pixel 2 - Nov 2017 to March 2018
Pixel 2XL March 2018 to present

Spare line was switched over from V30 to Idol 4S in Jan 2018.
I am not that intrigued by new smartphones anymore.

Nicee. I want to be like you.
It will be less of a distraction for me in life. I mean, it's easier to just read about other phones over trying them all. Actually it's more like over trying the same phones over and over again.

Not quite 90% but yes, you will get more money than the Samsung Galaxy, that's for sure.
Although that is primarily because of the BOGO deals Samsung has for their Galaxy phones which probably tanks the resale value of their devices.

I looked at reviews for the S9/S9+, G7 and OP6 and just shrugged.
I didn't even bother to check out the Sony offerings, same miserable camera experience. I mean how many passes can one give them considering everyone else uses a Sony camera sensor.

Ooh okay, that makes sense. I could get why you'll see it that way. You do have a phone with a top camera, if not the top camera.

I don't blame you on not bothering with Sony. I only bother because they are the only OEM who makes small phones with good specs. SE2 is still very much a rumor. Monday will confirm or deny this being a thing. At least for now anyway.

If it is a thing, awesome! I'll return the XZ2 Compact gladly. Then I'll trade in the 7 + use gift card value and the remaining amount to get it. If not, I'm back to the circle of the iPhone 7 with basic battery life or retrying a Sony Xperia XZ2C. I could also use the Galaxy A3 but its performance is very inconsistent.

I can't use the 7 with a battery case because it's too heavy to use with one hand.

I am a fan of the 5" screen size but after using the S8 last year for about 4 months and then using this Pixel 2XL for the last 2.5 months, I don't miss the 5" screen too much. I think I like the 18:9 aspect ratio for the bigger screen devices. I am very happy with the current device that I have right now. Even though the Idol 4s is technically the smaller device, it feels a bit more bulky to hold in the hand since it is wider.

I'm really surprised that the 2XL has been great for you. I mean that in terms of size only.

You are right though, width also matters too. I noticed that as well. The 7 I have is okay in height but it is wider which is annoying at times. It feels nicer to use Galaxy A3 and the XZ2C since those are narrower (and shorter!).

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

So I'm kicking around some ideas for my music problem involving a 3rd device.

Options:

1) Get a Nokia N86 8MP. The cheapest option and the most nostalgic. Smaller, compact and does support the 3.5mm jack (but unsure if it'll read high capacity SD cards)

2) Get a HTC 10 as a project. I loved the in hand feel of this phone but for some reason didn't want to buy it. Seen some beat up ones at a nice price and the replacement parts (screen + housing + battery) can be had for $100.

3) Get a U11. Most expensive and the one that doesn't have a 3.5mm jack.

I kinda like the first two options and seem more interested in #2 . Not sure what I'll choose yet. I think if I don't get a U11 I'll just keep the Pixel 2 as the daily driver and just use something else to satisfy the need for a 3.5mm jack.

#donglelife is quite problematic.
Courageous my a**!

This was why I used to hold onto iPhones, but got tired of doing that eventually. They were good for quick sales though...

Hmm these are all good options. If you'll have time and energy, the 2nd one could be interesting to try out.

However, the u11 will be able to uniquely hit the camera and sound needs together. Hard choice either way. Good luck with your choice.

Edit: I just realized something. If you were to get the 10, that would be a slightly smaller phone, right?

Ibid. There was nothing impressive or interesting in those models. Everything was solid, but nothing that screamed "must buy". Cannot blame you for skipping Sony as well.

Outside of seeing the notch on the Pixel 3 XL, the performance of the U12+ and how Moto will sell its mods, there's nothing to look forward to this year.

Dongle life and Dingleberry in White House are similar stresses, I swear.

If Google had kept the same 3.5mm jack from last year's Pixel to this one, this would be a moot sticking point for me.

The 10 is in the same bracket as the Pixel 2, maybe a little bigger. If I did, I'd convert it into a rose gold with black screen front (the gold model was white front only that year).

Gotcha. Ooh that would be really cool!

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Just to give an idea of the type of weather I've been putting up with since November. We've had, possibly, 40 days of no rain in all that time. Fields are flooded, towns are flooded, crops damaged. Water table and rivers are very high.

It's insane the amount of rain we've had. It's the wettest year on record. I picked a good year to move to France...

The days early in the week looked like this as well.

It's nice to see Friday looking sunny. At least my birthday at the moment looks nice...

That's our weather forecast until November.
