WC 1M Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Doubt it. As long as MacOS doesn't support touch it'll never succeed in the Surface/Chromebook world. Conversely, Apple has to find a way to allow mouse support on iPads if they're serious about competing with the Surface.
Considering that Autodesk is making full AutoCad available on the iPad it will require a mouse. If not no one will use it.

As for touch screen, it's nice but I still don't use it much. There's still too many websites problems and other issues while using it.

There are a lot of people loving Chromebooks though. I have trouble justifying the price of them however.

As for Windows, it's generally good but it has its moments still. It has this tendency to make a mess of things from time to time. Not sure why that happens though.

I personally think Microsoft is in trouble. If Google can sort out how to get full working computer programs working via streaming or some other method then Windows will die. I think it's a matter of if not when as well.

That's just my opinion of course but I sort of get this feeling that's where we're heading.

And this portion is to ease back some of the nausea Rue is experiencing about reading more tech talk...

I don't mind tech talk just a bit out of step lately with things so I just skip over things.

The article was interesting and shows a problem that is occurring globally in large cities.

That format was a touch annoying though.

USA cities have an issue with green spaces. Then you get places like Manhatten where space is limited and everything is for sale.

I still do wonder how Central park manages to not be developed.

Central Park I believe had Landmark status, so it cannot get touched like that. Plus it's got a Conservatory, which is funded and powerful in its own right.

I think I'm going to hold onto the to the Mix 2 or trade it for a Mate 10 Pro. The prices for the base variants are through the toilet in the resale market, so it's not worth the headache.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

So it looks like most of the new gear will be here this weekend. Will likely set everything up and start using stuff on Monday. Got me a gaudy looking tan leather strap, but I'll get a black one to rotate in and out.

While I'm looking forward to the new stuff, I'm not excited about it. Guess that's because all the tech is the same these days. I suppose of everything I'm looking forward to is the Mi Pad 4.

I think this makes sense considering that the tablet replacement has been a long time coming for you.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

The other day, I surprised myself with deciding to buy the Xr, with some money off. You all know how I feel about phones being big now. I finally picked it up yesterday and it felt big (still kind of does) but I'm managing it okay. I plan to try it out for the next couple of days and decide if I'm keeping it or not, as I still have my 7.

So far, trying out has two thoughts crossing my mind:

1) This is the biggest I have tried but gestures make this less painful to deal with. This phone actually fits at least half of my work pockets, which is shocking. It makes me wonder how it would be to have a X, which is both narrower and shorter (so getting to notifications and control center should be less of a pain). The XS is the same phone (but updated) but that's out of my range, so nope.

2) Phones that I have considered to be huge really aren't as huge as I thought but most of them are still pretty big, considering that the Xr is very close in dimensions to the first Pixel XL, aside from height (it's shorter). This kind of has me wondering if and what I missed out on this year, aside from the Pixel 3.

Edit: To add, all of the iPhone Plus models, general Plus models of various OEMs, including Samsung, and Pixel 2 XL & Pixel 3 XL are still huge to me and I would not. Also my Note 4 is actually slightly bigger than the Xr.

Where tall-ish phones suffer is in the UI. On iOS for example, the majority of apps have the “back” button on the top left of the screen. For someone with large meat hooks like me it’s close to being a problem in one handed use. I can only imagine what it’s like for you. Having well thought-out gestures mitigates this problem altogether. Let us know how it goes.

I agree with you! That's probably what it is. It's been easier to just swipe to go back, which works in most apps. I'll let y'all know how it goes, as I'm going to give myself until Tuesday night (or Wednesday, haven't decided which one yet) to see if I'm keeping it or not.

Haven't had one of these evenings in a while with the pink high clouds and thunderstorms brewing.

Without it being here yet, I'll say the following:

Like the in hand feel. Camera is still Sony but better (gonna miss having Pixel 2 camera convenience, but since I'm keeping it...). Drop Nova on it and keep things going. Should be getting 9.0 on it before I completely set up the phone. Love the color. Bemoaning the 3.5mm. Glad to be back using wireless charging. Like the screen but it's not that much different than the Mix 2's panel. Kinda concerned about battery life, but will see.

(If stuff changes from this, I'll let you know).
Initial impressions with the device:

I covered it here thoroughly. The only thing I'll say is I love that mint green color in person. The pictures were good and it's dead on in person. Last green I like this much since that emerald green Galaxy S6. 99 and I are sticklers so this device is a 7/10 with our scales. Only blemishes are: one scratch near the FPS and three scuffs at the bottom near the USB port. Screen and accesories are mint. It's the international (likely dual SIM) model, so I think it's the 6GB RAM model.

Waiting to get 9.0 first before transitioning to it.
