WC 1M Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Millennials are the (comparatively) loneliest generation, so stuff like this shouldn't be a surprise.

Plus, there's some privilege talking in there too, which isn't that surprising either.

I know there is a lot of reasons behind the Millennial loneliness besides technology but I think the addition of technology to the mix hasn't helped this situation much.

The prevalence of iPhones as the 'premium phone' and used extensively and praised by celebrities is probably what makes it what it is. Add in the shunning of anything not Apple and you get this kind of nonsense.

As one person in the article put it, if someone has a problem with the phone you have do you really want them as a partner? There's deeper issues there...

Just curious to know, does Apple make it impossible to change that colour scheme? Sounds like something they'd do...

I don't think that's something that can be changed (in general). The only way to do so is to turn off iMessage.

So what do you do when snobs like this starts harassing you how the messages don't blue? If that were me, I'd swipe left.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

I have heard this before and it is silly. Adding the ball and chain (of having iMessage) into dating is just silly. My messages were always green, even with using an iPhone. It should always be about the other person, not if they have an iPhone or not. Dating is a lot. This kind of thing just adds another basis of elimination for me.

Weirdly enough, I follow this great girl who shared her guy on her account and shared one of the text messages he sent. For context, he has an Android phone (I dunno what because he's not the type to share video) and she has an iPhone. Tell me why a girl said something like, tell him to get an iPhone! ...
This guy seems like he is really her person and yet this random girl is talking about phones. So silly.
Some people's priorities on love are *** backwards, that's why.

I would do the same. I haven't experienced this personally, but so far (knocks on wood), the people that are like that are usually not interested in me or if they are, something else ends the communication.

Apple had positioned the iPhone as a lifestyle accessory, not a gadget. Been doing so since the iPhone 4 ce out, but have really pushed that ethos the past few years.

So of course it'll be in the hands of social influencers like celebrities.

I agree. I am not dating at the moment, but it is a lot on its own. Of all of the things, that should be the lowest priority. I would rather have the guy that is seen is generally or somewhat attractive and shares all/most of the important values and goals and is indifferent about his phone.

The attractiveness is just a point but as long as I find them attractive, that's all that matters.

That's privilege and first world problems talking, I suppose.

Too much stuff in the news these days that shouldn't be.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

So the new work bag should be here today. I like my little sling but some days it's a pain to use as I have to be careful not to put either too much stuff or oddly shaped items in it.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

I forgot to say that I went to a game this week and it was awesome! This was a rescheduled game and it shows that sometimes stuff getting in the way works out for the better. Weather was great, just everything worked out. I'm so glad that it was rescheduled after the big stuff was done. It felt like a treat to myself but also with friends!

I hope you had a good time and that the Nats lost (except for if it was vs Phillies or Braves).

Haha! I had a great time and the Nats won. The Reds were demolished even though they tried.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Heard a financial tip of money mistakes to avoid in your 30s that said that living in a high cost of living area is one. The people that said this are in their 30s and said that they live outside of one (the tradeoff is that they have a long commute). Considering that I'm rolling into that decade, I listened carefully. The reasoning is because you wouldn't have as much to save.

I'm wondering how that would look like for me though and how far outside of the area is reasonable. I have a coworker that has to drive an hour home and she hates it. To me, that doesn't sound great at all. 45 minutes also sounds long.

Here's my thought on this. Take it was as you will.

I've lived in places where I could walk to work or drive short distances or small trip on public transport.

I've lived in places where I had to commute long distances by public transport or drive.

I am currently in a position where I have a short (20 min) commute in easy traffic.

Now out of all those options my personal preference is walking of course because that means you don't have to rely on anything.

Second comes short drive so long as parking is free.

Third is public transport.

Why do I think this?

Well depends who you are. If you like 'time to yourself' and don't stress about things much then driving a long distance is fine but it will get to you eventually and the waste of life (as my wife puts it) accumulates.

Public transport is great, when it works. Sometimes you don't have much choice but you're always at it's mercy.

So to me living as close as you can to work as possible is a lifestyle choice if it suits your lifestyle of course.

You may have other factors that prevent that like family. But then you should consider where you work maybe.

Cost of commuting isn't cheap. Either by car or public transport. I find a lot of people don't consider these things correctly.

So as the saying goes. Buy where you can afford to live the best life you can. It's great to think about house prices going up etc but the best thing you can do is think about what's best for you.

Everything else is a bonus.

I really appreciate this viewpoint, thank you! It sounds like you have really done every possible commute method so you are very familiar with the pros and cons of each one.

What you said about long drives is true and I fear that. I don't know how long I'll work here but at the moment, my commute is 16-17 minutes by car.

The things that I like to do involve driving. Getting to my church also involves driving. The concerts I go to are usually around 1 hour of driving to get there. Even going to a game takes 30ish minutes by car and an hour by public transport (but this is cheaper since parking is wild in the city). Only like some of my friends live around each other, but mostly everyone lives in different cities/towns, so that's driving again. I'm not opposed to living in the town I live in currently, provided I can afford something reasonable.

I have a friend and her husband who do what you mentioned about walking. She's 15 minutes away walking and he's 5 minutes away walking from work. The tradeoff is that their apartment is really high and they can't have a car without paying in the city. They are also far from basically everything. The husband hates the city, he's just dealing with it because of her.

Anyway, thank you for sharing this viewpoint. It's one to consider and I will think about all of these points.

Work week has ended.

Time to plug in to recharge the battery for another grueling week.
