WC 1M Post Challenge - You Ready?!

The sound output on the S10+ and S9 were very good - speaker, headphone and BT. I just was a bit afraid to say it out loud with all the LG audio fans here.

Update on S10+

I decided to try out One UI, rather than use Nova Launcher Prime, which I've been using on all my Android devices for over four years. Granted, I'm using Gboard,Textra and Aqua Mail Pro, rather than the stock Samsung apps for keyboard, texting and email. However, I wanted to see how I liked One UI, since I despised TouchWiz when I played with Samsung devices in the past.

Surprisingly, I don't hate One UI and will probably keep using it. It isn't cluttered and laggy as TouchWiz used to be.

Another thing I did was install PowerAmp Pro, which I purchased when I used my OG Moto X, and it works great on the S10+. The S10+ has Dolby Atmos, so the sound isn't shabby at all. That was one of my concerns about switching from LG, but it's not noticeable to me with the same headphones.

One thing I'm still trying to get my head around is who decided what the 'perfect' picture is? There seems to be this ideal picture that if a phone doesn't have it you shouldn't buy it. Forget understanding how to take a picture, lighting and (OMG!) editing a photo. It's crazy we're here. I know the general idea of a camera phone is 'point and shoot' but you should still have some idea of taking a picture... and some of these reviewers are really clueless.

You're spot-on here. No matter what camera one uses, if s(he) doesn't understand composition, the photos will be bad. Back in the days of 35mm film I used to take 3 shots of a subject what was regular exposure, 1 stop overexposed and 1 stop underexposed. I figured I'd get a good shot out of at least one of those. Without Photoshop or other digital tools post-processing was very limited. Understanding of rule of thirds and golden ratio helped.

People complain about graininess in phone photos. That's going to happen with high ISO. That's how it was with film if one used something like 1600 or 3200 ISO film and a slow shutter speed in a dark environment without a flash.

Things like bulb mode will turn out bad without a tripod and cable release.

As I'm not a selfie type person I'll take several shots of something and look at it later and then decide what I like. I've noticed that those who are selfie obsessed take several shots, look at them immediately, possibly delete, then take more. It's a whole other mindset... I've seen some stand in one spot for ten or more minutes...

Thing is where are people using these pictures that they need such high quality shots? Those fantastic photos you see on Instagram are not done using a phone camera. Two, they're edited for hours. So I'm unsure what the drive is.

Can you take great shots with a phone camera? Sure. But you still need to know how to take them first...

My point before though is there seems to be some colour scheme and look to a photo that determines it's a great photo. Just curious who created that standard or are we just accepting it?

I have a tripod and remote for my DSLR. Even with the using bulb is difficult.

Taking night shots is hard in general.

Editing them is tricky.

That's very true. I used to shoot an entire roll just to get 2 or 3 good shots.

I'm not into selfies at all. I don't get that whole thing either. Instagram compresses photos anyway, so what's the point of using high-end gear and spending time post-processing just for posting on Instagram? I can think of lots of other things I'd rather do.

So...Laura now owns a Samsung, Mrs. Rue doesn't want a Sony (but a Pureview with those flaws, I meant quirks) and Google launched their gen 4 iAndroid, I mean Pixel 4. And LG is taking about Android 10 updates by the end of the year (most likely to their Korean V50 and G8 models first).

All sorts of craziness is happening I see. Let's see if 99 will try one of these new Google iAndroids, sorry Pixels.

Meanwhile, I'm thumbing through ultra book reviews. What a massive upgrade this will be, going from quad-core Bay Trail processors with 2GB RAM and 64GB SSD to a i5 Whiskey Lake setup with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD.

I'd rather go a 16GB + 512GB setup but I don't feel like paying out of the nose and other orifices I cannot mention for that.

I know there are some upgrades that can be had, but boy, I need to go in a store and type on some stuff first.

During this time I've viewed a lot of video reviews of phones. Something I usually don't do.

I have to say I'm not a huge fan of reviewers overall (though some are OK) and some are, to put it bluntly, just useless. I know this is nothing new and this has been said for some time. Especially about those with bias.

I watch video phone reviews for entertainment purposes only. There are very few individuals who break down a handset from the lens of getting max usage and best value for $. Damir was one of those, and now his stuff is in German only. Otherwise, I lean into my own usage experience to ferret out the YouTube noise as to what I plan to buy when I plan to buy.

Even I am not stubborn or silly enough to gloss over the fact that the S10+ is a better offering overall than the V50. Makes sense to step down to very good overall (speakers, BT, and 3.5mm) audio experience for a better auto mode in camera, more consistent security patches (Samsung has gotten better with their carrier models). LG isn't doing enough right now, and it's a bit sad to see.

Besides, you still have access to a damn fine DAC in the V20 as needed. Good luck with the new purchase.

Thanks so much! I'm really enjoying the phone so far. I'll probably need till the weekend to be out and about taking pictures, but I'll definitely include my thoughts on the camera once I've used it.
