It's pretty stark to see the reduction in volume of people during rush hour. I still plan to go out on Friday, but it may be shorter with all the people staying away.

For me, at this point, being calm and quietly preparing is the most important thing. The gf is stocking up on her grains - I wish she would make some stuff to freeze by, but it's so labor intensive I don't think it will happen. I've got some animal bits in the fridge so im stocking up on that.

The first official case has been reported at home. If course the whole country is in a panic as we aren't as confident in the government. But I'd tell you, I'd take my home's government vs the current 'Murican administration any day in this crisis right now and THAT is saying a lot...none of it good. The smarter people are tuning out this cat in the White House...

People are waiting for de Blasio to make the bigger lock down announcement. That might likely coming alongside governor Cuomo, as both men famous don't get along. I'd rather take that odd couple vs. D. John and team jackass right now.

It would appear that I can get full LTE on Verizon using a Mi 9, based on a very brief test conducted.

So let's see what management says.

So anyone wanting to know what's going on here.

To put it simply, life as normal for the moment.

I'm still going to work. Using public transport, etc.

We've stocked up a touch for food and other provisions. Plan to get a bit more.

My wife is more concerned about this than me, with good reason, she has mild asthma. So it's understandable.

For my work, until a case shows up it's likely I'll keep working or until the government does the same things as Italy. I can work from home so in a way that's good. Just hope it doesn't happen.

Also I don't fully believe the numbers from the USA. I think there's a lot more cases being left untreated and tested.

In general they add up, 1267 confirmed with 38 deaths. That's a bit more than the 3.4% average.

However, one expert put it this way. For every death there's about 100 people infected. That's also if they confirm all the deaths. So take it from there. That's going by the believed statistic of about 1.1% mortality for this virus. Most experts think 3.4% is wrong.

Lastly, most countries, due to the large population of elderly people, will likely show larger mortality rates.

The USA has a lot of other issues.

It's not pretty, that's for sure.

Had no plans to visit the USA any time soon. So it's a bit irrelevant to me.

Though the plane tickets are probably cheap...
The ONE time I forget to put "yuge sarcasm alert" in there you're all over it like Pelosi during the last State of the Union speech...

(yuge sarcasm alert)

In my situation, the gf and I do outpatient work. If her clinic is open, she's going in as of right now. My work flow is predicated on working directly with new people constantly. So my existing panel I could work remotely if we were asked to stay home, but otherwise, it's hard to get much work done.

It's hard to explain watching the decrease in volume of people in the places I walk through.

So here's my problem with having this guy in charge.

1) He's in the headlines, alright - his favorite place.

2) Him being in the news deflects what is happening in Iran, which is a great example fo what happens when people don't trust the government and a pandemic breaks out.

3) His vacillations on this pandemic on a policy level has left the country woefully ill-equipped. There is no reason why Australia, South Korea and Singapore can test people so efficiently and we are struggling here to get testing done.

4) His individual vacillations on this pandemic are astounding. His insistence on not getting tested or showing while might be trying to project this image of "invulnerability" is dangerous as it reinforces to his followers that this pandemic shouldn't be taken as seriously. This isn't the time to do "business as usual", but he surely is pushing on to do just that.

5) His talking heads are really stupider than I care to acknowledge. Bet if Alex Jones or Laura Ingraham came down with COVID-19, the spin would still be how Team Jackass is using the virus to wrest back control of the country and win the election.

6) His policies are going to disproportionately affect the poor and the elderly and those with ongoing medical conditions - the most vulnerable. I've got an under insured client who has been screened and is positive for COVID-19. She's at home in self quarantine and cannot easily get access to confirmatory testing. Now, there's a protocol in place for her, but with her other medical and mental health challenges, it's a real cluster**** right now. There's going to be a lot of people in a similar boat and quickly.

We are colossally ****ed.

So price gouging on sanitizers and N95 masks are in full swing. People are still using questionable practices.

On the train and this guy sneezed into the gloves in his hands. They are the knitted type gloves. Then then takes them off, puts them into his pocket and reaches into his bag for the hand sanitizer. Now if the goal of minimizing germs, he's lost the plot as there are too many contact surfaces he's touched on his person before he got to the sanitizer.

Long before COVID-19, I had bought one of these, because it's NYC and germ filled as all ****. I've got one on both work bags, so if I was in a situation similar to above, it's way easier to sanitize and minimize contact surfaces. 20200312_085527_HDR.jpeg

"It's hard to explain watching the decrease in volume of people in the places I walk through."

To help put a bit of this into perspective...

I ride the busiest line in the MTA to work, which runs through lower Manhattan - in particular, by Wall Street. The sheer reduction in the number of people at one of the busiest transfer points in the system in that area has been stark. Even the number of people who get off at the Wall Street stop I go through has been significantly slashed.

This line I ride also goes through quite a few of the heavy transfer points in the system in Manhattan. Traffic is down by at least half.

It's a hell of a thing. And it gives images of empty spaces where one is accustomed to seeing large crowds of people so stark.

is real.
