So far first day of working from home has been ok.

Can't say it's great but ok.

I'm setup on the dining table so can relate to anyone else in this situation...

Using one monitor sucks.

Considering the software you use, it sounds like it will make everything be much slower for you.
My friend that has to view, read models, run code, etc, is also missing his monitors.

It's really weird driving and seeing such little activity around. Even though there are no schools open, I didn't even see a single kid walking a dog.

To reinforce the point, I suggest people listen to the New York times podcast called "The Daily". Search for the episode called "It's like a war" - where one of the doctor's in Italy in a hospital dealing with high concentration of covid-19 cases share his experiences.

ain't no joke.

I did read about that. Apparently kids socialising as usual in Italy, then going home, led to increased spread of COVID-19.

However, a solitary kid walking outdoors without being around any other humans would still be doing proper social isolation.

I'll be doing more solitary walking outdoors, since the gym is closed, but I still want to get some exercise.

This isn't to depress anyone. This is some stuff that needs to be said. If it ain't for you, skip over this post.

My prayers are with my medical colleagues across the globe - the nurses, medical assistants and doctors fighting in the trenches vs COVID-19, especially in the most hard hitting areas. As mentioned before, I work in a hospital setting so my work flow has me going into inpatient units all the time. The last unit I went to recently what struck me was seeing the new (at that time) protocols involved...feeling a sense of not quite business as usual from the nurses. One of my old attending lives in the quarantined area. Having to wear protective gear as needed at work while seeing patients and then to go home passing through that must be spiritually taxing. My GF is in the same boat, as she works in a primary care clinic with direct patient contacf...primary care is the front lines (especially for adults), along with the emergency rooms and the inpatient units.

My prayers are with patients in the thick of this too, as I'm aware of a few people as clients who are going through it either directly or have loved ones dealing with it. I cannot imagine what it's like - I can only tell you the anxiety I heard from one of my clients who is in one of the hospital floors for potential covid-19 patients. Or knowing a loved one of a client whose son is in critical care battling complications from covid-19. Or longstanding clients worrying about my health as much as their own, even though I'm working remotely from home. Makes your hairs stand up on end, really.

My job right now is to be a space to manage and contain and filter somehow all these various emotions, including my own. I think the hardest part is having a realization of the gravitas of what's happening and knowing someone else's stupidity can potentially override your efforts of caution and put you at risk to be truly in the thick of the experience. That's not sitting well with me.

I'm passed being upset at the current administration. The thing that still strikes me is that the gravity of the situation has not yet sunk in for a ton of people who are trying to view this pandemic as "business as usual". Well it ain't. I'm not saying people need to be all consumed by it. Show it the respect it deserves and do what you can to not have your health compromised.

That's all. I won't talk about this side of it much outside of this post. But for all the lurkers and regulars here, err on the side of caution, no matter where you are.

Actually, the podcast episode I was referring to spoke about Healthcare provider experience on the front lines in Italy. It triggered me to write my prior post.

Those are wise words. My thoughts go out to everyone in the healthcare field. They are all to be commended for their work especially at this time.

So...it's been interesting in using the Mi 9 over the past two days. It's confirmed why I'm not angling as much to get a Mi Mix 3 5G as a daily driver anymore. I've had Xiaomi before as a daily driver. I owned a Mi 5, which I still love to this day, and I use my Mi Pad 4 daily (which I'm typing this post on). There are just some quirks in MIUI 11 that just don't fit well with me that are past a launcher change that would annoy me a bit more in the user interface. The hardware itself is really good. I just feel like I've got to bend the UX a bit more to my will than I want too. I have to do that still with EMUI too, I'm not sure how much clean up Xiaomi has done with this version of the skin. Maybe MIUI 12 will feel a it better. We will see.

I good podcast for information is Science Vs. you can probably tell by the name it's going to be accurate.

They're up to six episodes on the virus now.

Ironically they did a podcast of a 'what if' scenario, if a pandemic were ever to come about last season of the podcast. That pandemic scenario was more extreme but it gives insight.

When you have a president who's only concern is his own back pocket and who's popularity is based on market gains, it's hardly surprising that little was done upfront.

Not to mention his dismantling of the pandemic response team in 2018.

Then add all those large companies he's hoping to get kick backs from for giving them those contacts...

You can tell by his speeches that he still thinks this whole thing is a waste of effort and it's somehow a type of conspiracy to take him down.

Reading about tech seems less important in our current situation. Nothing is normal anymore. Incompetent handling by the government.
We had a massive f***-up by the police over travel permits - instead of social distancing it caused long queues at police stations.
Instead of restricting movement, it encourage and exodus if people from the city back to the villages - instantly causing huge congestions at travel hubs/points.
It's scary that what happened in Italy could happen here.
Stay safe people, stay home you all...
... most of all, stay away from me

Sigh, it's started...

Bernie isn't going to be the candidate so I'm not going to vote for the Dems...

It's the is rather punch myself in the face for another four years brigade on the loose...

According to stats, Bernie has little chance of winning centrist voters.

That's the unfortunate part but such is realtity. They're isn't just left and right.

I'm not American, I don't like Biden either, but I'd vote for him just to get the orange baboon out.

"I'm American, I don't like Trump either, but I'd vote for him just to get keep Hillary out."

It was some version of this phrase that got us here, so...

Lots of people who look like you here like to "cut off their nose to spite their face."
