Lots of people are hoping to find something new work wise. I don't think that employers are going to have as much leverage as some of them are used to having...but they will still have some.

It's gonna be a worse rat race. Sigh.
Strangely there are coaches out there who firmly believe employers will have even more leverage because there will be more supply than demand.

I'm in no hurry. I will see how this plays out and go from there.

Currently I just want a vacation more than anything...

I expect I'll be working from home until about June or possibly longer.

Currently the government has told companies to keep people working at home if they can.

I could go into work for meetings if necessary but there's currently no way for me to work from both the office and home.

I'm not lugging a desktop back and forth...

Companies, especially engineering ones, are so far behind in working from home and using laptops.

Unfortunately IT companies charge ridiculous amounts of money for laptops that can power the software I use and the company expects these laptops to last 5-7 years or longer.

Then add in the trust issues and other aspects of this type of work and you have why desktops are still king.

I know from a recent video from the president of the company he's keen to have everyone back in as soon as possible.

Probably thinks productivity has dropped. I have news for him. Productivity is already crap regardless.... Lots of reasons for this too.
Lots of companies that switched to remote work are worried people not working while home...

I have no idea of how my work will look once things reopen. There's a big in-person component to what I do, especially home visits. That's for management to figure out...and for me to find another job.

The race continues...

My wife hopes that there will be a new normal. I'd like to think so too.

Unfortunately, I don't see this happening.

With the short attention spans we have, the decisiveness, the privilege and pure ignorance of the population I don't see it happening.

Chances of change are slim to none. This is a revolutionary point in time. We simply won't grasp it.

We being 'the people'.

The rich will get richer and we'll stay the slaves.

Depending on the industry, the coaches are right - sadly.

I need a vacation myself. Was talking to one of my old attendings over the weekend and we both shared similar concerns - too many in public who won't follow the science and keep putting people at risk. The idea of going somewhere for vacation is just unnerving right now.

I respect your wife's optimistic attitude.

The older I've gotten, and the longer I have worked in my trade, the more cynical of humans I've become. Didn't help when my knack of cynicism started at age 6 (different story for a different day).

It's gonna take a few of these events to really cut through the malaise that's set in amongst the have nots. "The system's working effectively, that's why." - Kanye West.

Believe me the desire was there but, meh.

I'm just tired at the moment.
This is not a criticism leveled at anyone here per se.

God, I miss critical thinking.

I think critical thinking amongst other things like common sense are stuck in a rundown nursing home where people fought that they existed.

I used to hear very thought provoking arguments constructed from perspectives that I'd never agree with. Remembered teachers in high school especially who drop kicked us over the head with the value of critical thinking.

Now it's all this siloed morass .

Too many people have been told science and experts are BS.

A decent vacation for me currently would just be my farm. Depending on how things go here that's looking end of June/July.

Just a long weekend.

Though I do have an itch to travel. That can wait though.

I've been cyclical for some time. Not six but at least teens. The more I've learnt about outside interference into education and politics the more I've become sad about our future.

One can hope though. Maybe a decrease in population by disease is long over due for us.

Don't like the idea but we don't seem to get the hint any other way.

If you're wondering. Yes, I'm seriously contemplating finding a new job.

Of course waiting until after this mess with the virus is sorted. To whatever the new normal is.

I'd prefer to stay in the area or head back to the west coast area. Though that's unlikely.

I'm not in a hurry but unless things get fixed I can't see myself staying at this company for long.

Since they seem to find you, how about the one you mentioned before that found you, but you passed on? I don't blame you on this.

Critical thinking skills should be taught in schools. However, current systems are all set up for passing tests to get into university.

University has become profit driven like everything else.

Depending on the university, your parents and money are the ticket in regardless.

The USA and other countries have done a great job dumbing down the general population.

Worst yet, they also took away a lot of their opportunities for work.

The ones I've passed on weren't the best fit.

Also I believe in at least six months in a position. Can look bad otherwise.

It's not hell but it's not great.

Like I said no hurry.

Well I guessed wrong.

My company seems keen to get us back into the office ASAP.

They just sent out a survey asking when we'd like to return.

Starting next week.

Goes against everything the government has suggested.

Just goes to show what employers think vs government.

Wow, that's messed up! So do they expect y'all to work in shifts? My dad's work is doing that for him and some others. They go in to work one week, and then are out of the office the next week.

A bit of clarification.

It's up to me when I want to return, until there's a set date that says I have to.

I don't know full details but from my understanding a limited number of people will be let in at one time.

From the department of it is convenient until it ain't.

I'm in the easy pay program for the MTA that auto refills the card. So when COVID-19 hit, I didn't suspend my account because I could justify paying the full rate for April. Now I go to suspend my account May and having bought a smaller card instead and find out:

1) They charged me for May BEFORE sending out the replenishment notice (never did that before),

2) They're charging me a suspension fee of $30.

3) The call center that handles the program is closed as it's not seen as essential personnel, so I cannot protest that they pulled my cash prior to the renewal.

I know they're desperate for revenue since ridership has plummeted but still, that's crooked.

A mixed day, the Feds tells the nation to go back to work as MCO is relaxed for some business to reboot. However, majority of the states says no, we ain't ready... .. several states outright oppose, others want a more measured gradual resumption. Feds threat to sue, or hints that business will/can sue the states if they don't open up.

Big crowd at the supermarkets, without strict social distancing. It looks like one big family day outing.
Restaurant are open for dine-in, pubs are opened
Jeez, the virus didn't disappear just because the MCO is relaxed.
.
.... .. and long long lines at the pawn shops.
