It royally sucks how Sony's music app got busted on 10 for non Sony devices. I've always used it because it'd pretty easy to edit tags and manage my music - and the play lists worked well with other apps. It kinda works but you cannot do much with it as it starts to force close. Sigh.

So my work wife for her birthday decided to update from a 6S to a XS Max.

1) She's not enjoying gestures
2) She's not enjoying face ID for her banking apps
3)She didn't tell me it was an XS Max she was updating to or else I would have told her the easy way to copy over the 23GB of text message data (no typo - she knows a TON of people and does a TON via text)...

She's on the verge of returning the XS Max.

Honestly, if she had asked me...I would have told her get an iPhone 8+. She likes the old style. And it would have saved her $$$ (my nieces are 10 and 7). My coworker who's also a preacher updated from her 6+ to an 8+ and she's happy as a clam. Cannot imagining her doing gestures to get things done. She'd swipe up enough and the phone would end up in a wall.

So people wanted an SE2+. Apple has made it clear...keep your iPhone 8 until we make the SE3 to the bigger size if you like the old style. Otherwise, to get the bigger screen you want, you have to deal with gestures. More of that "we know what's best for you" stuffs...

I would have told the work wife to get a 256GB SE2 but she HAMMERS her battery and does a lot of work through it, so the bigger screen is better for her.

Fortunately, I don't have such issues. I'm OK with Google gestures on the 3XL, but you KNOW I have my 3 button navigation layout on ALL my other androids . No swiping for me.
I’ve been considering getting my real wife to ditch her 8+ for my XS Max but I’m afraid she’d have a hard time with FaceID and the gestures. Never mind the fact it took forever and a day to pry her from her beloved Pre2. She knows the gesture game, but I know her. It’s been about 5 years since she last used webOS which means it never existed.

I’m on the fence with Google’s idea of gestures. The Pixel 4XL has been the only one where it’s acceptable. I didn’t like the Note 9 at ALL with what Samsung did. It was 3 buttons and hidden drawer all the way. Apple has done a commendable job especially with larger devices. Google falls down the BlackBerry OS10 rabbit hole on big displays in that swiping up mimics the BB gesture of swiping up and to the right, unless you have a Shaq-sized thumb to execute a straight swipe up.

From what I had seen, Moto and Oneplus had nice gestures. The stuff on the Pixel is...meh. I can use it, I just prefer the old school layout. Apple has always the preference to sacrifice a small corner of its users to retrain the masses in what they feel is best.

Good luck with your wife on that. From a hardware lens, I like what Apple has done. From a usability perspective, let me be a dinosaur and use a SE2.

Well the device looks good. Specs are decent. But for two rear cameras (third is a depth sensor only), decent battery and great screen size $700 is probably a little bit too much IMO. They could have priced this closer to $600 and moved a lot of units.

I agree here. Was hoping they wouldn't price it for some than $650, especially if they didn't use the 765G chip. Why buy this on a carrier for $700 when you can spend $100 to get the flagship V60?

So people are dying from COVID-19 still. People are hurting because they're at home with barely any resources to cover food and bills because they're out of work. We've got producers with large excesses of food having to destroy stuff while people starve because there's no one to sell it too. Mr. Trump's government is too busy trying to get reelected to offer coherent guidance. Producers are pushing to reopen businesses even though customers and employees do not want to come in because there aren't enough adequate protections in place to minimize the spread of the virus.

I should be impressed at the myriad of ways as to how screwed we are, but I'm too busy being scared as to how screwed we really are. Yeah, we need Rue to start praying for help - it's that bad.

Ugh yes this is really bothersome. I have been listening to a podcast where she calls everything going on with COVID-19 and America, "America the Series Finale". So fitting.

Yeah 5 years is a long time for sure. I'm with MIA on this. Hopefully a plus sized SE2 will come as the rumors said.

Why would they do this and make the 11 obsolete?

Understand that prior to the SE2 the line up was the 8, 8+, 11, 11 pro and 11 pro max. Somewhere in between certain spots you can get the XR, XS and XS Max. If they refreshed the SE2 with a plus model, why buy the 11? For the wide angle and bigger screen with gestures? To me it would cause more cannibalism than needed. Clearly Apple feels the XR/11 models are useful. Sounds like more Apple alphabet soup if they did this.

I've seen so many elderly people doing gestures on Xr or 11 and complaining about the lack of the home button. I agree with MIA that Apple doesn't really care for these people's gripes.

That's the thing.

In the pre gesture days, the iPhone 8+ was great for people who wanted big screens - typically teens, women and the elderly. Big screens meant different things to different people - for the elderly, easy to see, easy to use was where it's at.

The problem with offering the SE2+ is that they HAVE to offer different variants. They cannot offer a special edition 128GB only model. Plus, they know people keep their devices for eons. And they like to sell lowest storage options like gateway drugs.

They've pinned themselves into the corner. If I'm in the forgotten demographic, I'd rather go buy an iPhone 8+ and use it till the wheels fall off.

Americans going on about murder hornets... (Asian hornets)

We already have those over here. For once, you're not number one.

But I'm sure you'll end up with the most deaths or stings from them.

In all honesty. It's not good though. They kill honey bees.

They also eat all your fruit off your trees.

B@stards really and big.

I'm sure there will be a gathering. Watching them murder bees, and, very likely, sting a few observants.

LOL
I thought rivers and nature has heal some with the lack of our activity!!

My town lies on three rivers, two of which are very clean and one that is definitely not. One thing those two clean ones have in common is that they both come from mountain areas, and thus are pretty cold.

So in case of these two it'd be hypothermia that would kill me, but the third one would be heavy metals, toxic waste and god only knows what else.

I thought I was done with school but not yet. Got a very last minute thing to do that will take a bit. At least after it, I will be done with everything for school. My classmates gave me a virtual round of applause the other day as a way of saying congratulations. I was touched, as I didn't expect that at all! So sweet.

Congratulations! You must be both proud and happy.

Oh, and the world isn't really a cleaner place now that we're off the streets. Because, you know, it's not really those plastic straws in our juice that are poisoning the air and water, but all the factories and companies out there that are "self-regulating".

True, that is a good point. Hands are tied. You saying this reminded me of how I felt when they discontinued the original SE. The only options at the time was the XS or the 8, which were bigger. I guess that makes sense to them to do.

It doesn't make sense to their consumers...it only make sense to Tim's bosses - the shareholders.
