WC 1M Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

My wife is a career coach so I have a small insight to situations like this. She's of course the better person to talk to but I can give a little bit of free advice.

First thing to do is to look at all the career paths you can possible take. Write down the positives, negatives and the indifferent. Be realistic on those points.

Next write down your own work values and how they compare to these career paths you want to take.

There's several ways you can approach this process. Using columns for the careers and rows for the values is probably the most effective.

This exercise will give you some clarity.

Often when we're overwhelmed by choice we often jump at things in stead of getting back to basics and having a good look at things. We all have goals but we should try to work in careers which feel the best fit for us and offer the compensation we desire. Sometimes it is just the paycheck you're after.

As most of us on here have learnt when opportunities knock you can either take it or wait for the next one. Not taking an opportunity does not mean another won't come along. Sometimes being ready for it is more important than the opportunity itself.
Thank you for this. It's very helpful. I'll work on doing that and it sounds like it can help. My field has such a range of possibilities.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

We're a bit cooler here which is good. 24-28C is more comfortable than 36C. We had higher humidity than I thought to. Was around 80%

Planning to head out this weekend. Hopefully it stays nice. Not sure where we're heading yet.

We're in Paris next weekend (King Tut exhibition and wandering) so might head to somewhere else.

Too much choice!
Not bad indeed. They really need to return some of these antiques to Egypt though...

I'm sort of using a technique my wife suggests people do, though she typically helps people with it. Knowing yourself and comparing it to career paths is harder than it sounds.

I'm nowhere near as good as my wife at this stuff. She's quite amazing.

Main thing she always says to anyone doing anything with careers is be ready before embarking on change or advancement. If you're not ready then you're just wasting your time and you'll end up being unhappy.

Remember to examine all aspects of your life in relation to your career path as career affects your life just as much as anything else. That's why the value assessment I mentioned is important.

Good luck.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Some people don't like being by themselves. Some people process loss differently; some don't choose to process loss at all. There are other answers, of course.

It's always a mix of things, really.

I see. That makes sense though.
I find it interesting that some choose to ignore loss, as that sounds painful for others that they drag into their life in that context.

Since you mentioned this, that reminds me of a story a Youtuber mentioned recently. She got involved with a guy who was seeing her for months but kept telling her that he was hurt by his last relationship. He showed some rude behavior towards her because of this. He said that he liked her but wasn't ready for a relationship. I think she let him go...hopefully.

The King Tut exhibit is on tour while the museum does an upgrade. I've been wanting to see this exhibit for some time though I was happy to wait until I went to Cairo.

I agree that misappropriated artifacts should be returned or the country should be compensated. The UK has a lot larger collection (most stolen by an Italian archaeologist if I remember correctly). They also have bits of the Parthenon from Athens, who I think has asked for it back and they keep saying no.

Italy has asked for the Mona Lisa but I'm not sure about his one. Leonardo gave that to Francois I when he moved to France.

I know that France is returning some things to other countries though. I believe that the British Museum is also returning some things but again not sure.

Will do, thank you! As I mentioned to MIA, I know some of what i don't want but I have to continue to work through knowing the rest.

This is much appreciated!

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Speaking of books, I picked up a book on Prime about a lady who didn't want kids from the jump and told the guy who she ended up marrying. His response was that he was fine with it but a lot of years later (13 or so years), he starts to have a change of mind on that and tells her which is a lot. It's fiction but ugh, it's kinda hitting and scaring me both at once because this might be hard to read considering how I feel about that.

<snip>

Just finished reading this book and the ending is beautiful but wow. I was expecting that she would cave but she did not. They decided to love and let go (by this, I mean divorce) since they realized that they have two different strong desires. She ended up doing what she always wanted to do and he ended up meeting someone and having a baby, they are good with being chapters of the other's story.

That sounds tough to do, but so considerate. I don't wish the same outcome for myself (marriage, change of desire about having a family from one partner and not the other so splitting up) but I appreciate how this ended.

Running on near empty consistently is potentially back breaking, to say the least.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

It's amazing and yet sad at the same time where I can get a G8 under $400 in mint condition.

It's kinda what makes LG such a bargain bin brand. That's good but not so good simultaneously. They make good phones. They haven't made a great phone since the G4/V10.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

I may have mentioned this before but here in France currently there are huge sales on. Basically twice a year France has large stock clearance sales. Once after Christmas and once around now. These run for several weeks.

This is government regulated as well. I can't remember the reason why. This of course doesn't mean that stores can't have other sales either. These are just the BIG sales.

Anyway, I've been considering getting a new battery pack for some time. Something with decent capacity.

I decided to check out an online shopping place in France and they had some good bargains. So I picked up a 50000mAh batter pack. It's fairly large and it doesn't indicate weight, hoping it's not excessive. It's actually two batteries in one case. Each at around 25000mAH. There's four output USB ports and two input USB ports. I think it also comes with a charger, which would make sense for such a large battery.

I got it for €14.50.

Which I thought was a decent price for what it is. It's good to know that I or my wife won't have any issues while out now.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

So a small update on my phone.

I've noticed that unlike my past Sony phones this particular phone doesn't seem to have an issue with fingerprints on the screen. Not sure if that's the Gorilla Glass or some coating that Sony put on but I've noticed my screen stays relatively clean in comparison to my other phones.

The other bit is why I considered the new battery pack. The battery really is too small for the phone which is slightly disappointing considering their track record with battery tech. They made such a large phone and should have put a large battery in.

Overall though I'm still happy with my purchase and I'm looking forward to more use out of it.

This weekend it looks like we're heading into Paris to take some classic pictures of Paris and visit some markets. At least that's the current plan.

So this morning there was a deer in our backyard. I tried to get a good picture but he was a bit too far away.

I think this is hardly surprising. Tim Cook is a money guy. Steve Jobs was a tech geek.

Apple has been bland for some time. It's only going to get more bland unless they get some creative people in.

As for Ives I think he's been stale for some time and probably leaving Apple will be good for him. Though apparently he's still designing for them through his new firm.

I agree that they have been stale for a while. It's getting harder to innovate if the technology isn't there yet. I'd have an Apple device to have one for the resale value, but outside of that, I'd stay clear. I curse at my work device enough as is...

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

I'm on the hunt for a new work bag. My ong is OK, but I miss the days of using my messenger where I could keep my full sized lunch in there.

I've seen some stuffs so I'm hopeful to make a choice soon. I'll likely go back to carrying water to work as well. After this trip next week, it'll be a lot of downsizing.

I use a free laptop backpack I got with my wife's laptop a few years back. I use this for work purposes. Nothing special about it other than the padded inside.

I currently use a small bag to carry around things while in Paris or any city for that matter that I bought in Bergen. It's ok but I'd prefer something a little nicer. It's difficult to find something I like though. It's a difficult thing choosing between function, looks and ease of use.

The Bergen bag (as I call it) is good on most counts but the strap is slightly annoying. It's canvas, so casual looking and I don't look touristy with it as lots of guys carry bags in France.

Do you have a backpack or a side bag?

Having used a few of their devices, I'd there was such a thing as a do over, I'd get a V40. The flaws in their devices are a bit overstated, just exaggerated more with the lackluster software support.

I hope they pull it together, for the sake of competition, but right now I don't see that happening.

I guess it's called a side bag. It's not bad, I just cannot put too much in it. I'd like to keep a few books and such in it. I still have my original messenger, but the strap was brutal. Not trying to overload myself with stuff I don't need, but I'd like to have a few other items on hand that I leave home because this bag lacks the storage.

I call it a side bag but I believe the proper name is messenger bag.

They come in various sizes. I have a small one.

I may look in Paris when I'm there just to see what's available. Don't need anything too fancy or large.
