Weekly photo contest: HDR

This contest was demanding for me as I never took HDR photos. I also like to take photos on a whim, when I'm inspired, not to carry tripods around. Yes, I am an amateur. But this was an inspiration and an adventure: to find right app for taking a picture, an app to edit it, and when I solved that, to find an object. As much as I really love my little L520 its camera has limitations. After all this said, I must say that best camera choice for me is HDR Photo Camera (I used lite version). Fantasia Painter is really great app for editing HDR on regular photos, and I thought I could cheat by applying this filter (I had a really good result with a photo of a kitten in close up taken with Nokia camera). But eventually the photo I'll submit was taken with HDR Photo Camera Lite and edited with Soft FX filter. After that I experimented with HDR filter of Fantasia Painter and got this result. Photo was taken on my way back from work, it's kind a futuristic especially with HDR technique.

I took this pic after a ride in the country field with my Lumia 925 using 4blend HDR. I used Adole Photoshop to edit it a little bit.

I was on vacation in France this summer and I was staying in Cannes. The room had a beautiful view and so I whipped out ProShot and snapped a bunch of HDR photos. This one was my favorite.

Taken in my backyard in South Carolina. Was just playing with HDR, amazing how realistic the colors and lighting turned out. Very hard to do without HDR.

Taken with My Lumia 1520 used the Pro Res image and edited with Adobe light room 5.5.
The location is Badhra Dam in Karnataka India. On my bike trip covering the Western Ghats

Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, CO, showing the Kissing Camels rock formation (top center). The red rock formations are very colorful in sunlight, and Colorado often has bright blue skies, but HDR accentuates the colors even more. I experimented one day by taking a lot of bracketed photos with my Nokia Lumia 920, using a variety of settings in Nokia Pro Camera. This photo was taken using 3 shots (-.5, 0, +.5). I combined the bracketed photos together in Adobe Photoshop CC to experiment with the various HDR settings.

I'm always fascinated by city growth. In this case, we see high-rise condos coming up over a relatively derelict section of San Francisco. I'm not sure which is more ominous, the shadowy SRO hotel and loan office, or the towering construction project.

I took this photo with HDR Photo Camera and edited it with Fhotoroom, all on a Nokia Lumia 1020.

Took this one today using HDR photo Camera on my Lumia 1520.

The image was post processed in Photoshop Express.

I moved in to Austrian city of Linz two years ago. Though the moving history of this city, tightly connected to Adolf Hitler, has always interested me, it was just yesterday when I decided to finally visit unfamous concentration camp in Mauthausen.

It was a rainy and cloudy Sunday afternoon and though I am not a big fan of HDR photography, decided to give it a try this time. Not the best shot for sure, probably could be used rather as an example how HDR could go wrong... still - like the dramatic look of the picture of the gate to the Mauthausen's garages, beautiful Upper Austrian countryside surrounding the buildings and the heavy clouds about. Looks almost romantic... And that romantic feel of the picture contrasting the cruel and bloody history of the place where more than 100000 people have been killed is giving be goosebumps.

Shot with Lumia 925 and 4Blend HDR. Post processed and edited using Fantasia Painter.
