Compass calibration

Can someone tell me exactly what "compass" hardware is installed on the Surface 3.
And beyond hardware, how does the Surface 3 calibrate direction and elevation?
And finally, if the Surface 3 settings are not correct is there some way to manually calibrate / adjust them?
Thanks.
Oh. And if anyone has any advice about how to get the Star Chart app to detect my location, I'd appreciate that help too! :eck:

The Surface 3 probably has the same magnetometer that's in the Surface 3 Pro. Usually the calibration for those apps is done under the app itself, not the device.

Location is Internet based, I'm not sure there is any way to get elevation, the Surface 3 doesn't have a GPS.

the Surface 3 with LTE will have GPS. that opens up tons of options such as turn-by-turn navigation.
