What you LOST in WP8.1

The 8.1 screenshot looks like its in the 'albums' folder in the above screenshot. In other words, it looks like they removed the above 'splash screen' and consolidated the hub so you save a few taps/clicks to get to your photos. I take it putting photos in the favorites folder does nothing to the background?

Yeah, I think that's exactly what happened. I tried setting one image as favorite but that changed nothing. Putting photos in the favorites folder only affects live tile now.

Im OK with that consolidation. Splash screen was nice but again, when you look for your pictures your still on that black background screen lol.

I think the IE change will be welcome too, I just realize I keep spamming the back button just to close it lol (im on 7.8 still so I don't get the x in multitask window)

Not that I use Bing Vision that much (almost exclusively to scan codes from Wpcentral to upgrade apps and that function is now going to be replaced by a manual "check for updates" button anyway), but I really don't know why they didn't put a Bing Vision button right next to the music search button in Cortana.

One more problem is the app whatsapp wich crashes a lot!!!!!!! which we use more often!!! Has it been updated??!!!!!

whatsapp never crashes on my windows phone 8.0 device. Also, we cannot install apps from store in the emulator so I cannot check.

- Photos app is now a pivot app with black background. No more beautiful photos app with personal background.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Heartbreaker! Such a simple thing, but such a beautiful feature of WP8. Why?????? :crying:

Do the network strength bars, WiFi, and battery icons hide after a few seconds or are they permanently stuck to the top of the start screen now? From all the videos I've seen they don't hide unless you go into certain apps. Really don't like that.

The new photo hub is disappointing to me as well. Why remove one of the most eye-catching parts of the os that allowed you to customize the background?

They never hide. They only disappear if the app explicitly tell them to disappear. Otherwise, they stay there indefinitely.

While playing games accidentally hitting the search or back button is very frustrating..Did they solve this???

 I just noticed this in Daniel's hands on video. Again, another minor thing which made WP8 look so good was how those disappeared. Having the network icon, wifi icon, battery, etc always displayed on the screen just looks so distracting and adds visual clutter. I do not like it at all. :(

As a developer, I know that Back button's behavior can be overridden by the developer. However, home and search buttons' behavior cannot be overridden in WP8. No idea if it's changed in WP8.1 until Microsoft provides the sdk documentation.
