What you LOST in WP8.1

I miss the baked in social networking functionality of People Hub and Me tile. Now my Me tile is rendered essentially useless. Of I want to post to both FB and Twitter I have to post twice, so it's actually faster to use the dedicated apps, and the notifications have moved exclusively to the action center.

I miss this! I get why they want to focus on apps instead of intregration for advanced features and rapid release. But removing the ability to post to multiple social networks is a step in the wrong direction and should not be too difficult to support. My twitter feed will die now, there is no way I will jump around apps to post updates.
This really SUCKS.

To be honest now that I fully tested my device with 8.1 I can say what I really miss:
#1 save photos to OneDrive
#2 having the me tile updated with social updates

All the rest it's called innovation and getting use to.

#1 This will definitely get fixed as soon as they update the OneDrive app.

#2 Unfortunately I think the Me tile is pretty much dead. (At least for those of us it used in this manner, to get updates from social networks that related to us). However we will be able to get all those notifications from the action center, so it's just a change of functionality. Now Facebook (or Microsoft, whoever will continue baking the app) just needs to add notifications to the app for when I get likes!

I hope #1 is fixed, what a pain in the *** now. #2 is a bummer for the me tile and the address book in general that no longer shares app data...

The address book does share the data. Right now I have linked several accounts in my address book to Facebook, Twitter (the beta though, everyone will get it when they update the stable app), and Skype. Unless you mean something else and I just didn't understand. :)

I no longer get the Facebook photo for a contact etc. Also, cannot delete a contact if they have only one phone entry, it dials them instead of opening their contact card, you have to call the number, go to history and then use the link to their contact card there.

And it no longer lists home addresses with deep links to mapping etc.

I might try a hard reset tomorrow and see if some of these small issues go away.

I am confused as to the point of the online section of the messaging hub. Since messenger/live has been essentially merged into Skype, wouldn't it make sense for that section to be used for Skype messaging?

Also, I may as well add my issue with how different notifications- emails, text messages, and toasts are handled with vibrations in 8.1. Colors and games I couldn't care less about. This is something that actually affects my productivity.

That is some strange behavior.

So in the people hub, as soon as you press on someones name it dials the number if they only have one number? Because the card does open correctly for me and I don't think you are getting the correct behavior. What if instead of just pressing you press and hold? Do you get a menu to delete? (I get a menu to pin to start, edit, and delete).

What Facebook do you have installed, the beta? If so, uninstall it and get the official stable app: Facebook | Windows Phone Apps+Games Store (United States)

Although I am not sure how you can check if it gets integrated since you say you can't open your contacts, that pone is really weird. (I guess with a contact that has more than one number in your case?).

That's correct, dials it instantly, pressing and holding does nothing.

I have the regular Facebook app, I'll try reinstalling that.

You may need to hard reset indeed.

Although someone mentioned yesterday that even after a hard reset their Facebook was still not integrated. However he did not mention any of the other weird people hub issues you are experiencing.

Maybe I'm mistaken but I'm pretty sure that pulling up the address book from the phone was the same as the people hub in 8.0, but now the address book seen when navigating from the phone isn't the same as when navigating from the people hub.

They never were. The people hub, and the phone list are different.

I think I may know what your problem is. You are accessing the phone list, not the people hub.

To get to a contact card from the phone list you tap on the little icon to the right of the name. It's a little circle, inside there is a person and three horizontal lines.

Can anyone else confirm that the app list no longer starts without index letters like in previous versions of WP? They used to appear after installing a certain amount of apps but I just did a hard reset and they're there.

I'll have to try my 520 when I get home, pretty sure it was the same link.

Just tried it on my 520 with 8.0/GDR3/Black and indeed the hitting the address book from the phone opened the people hub. I guess I'll just have to get used to this new way.

In 8.1, the phone hub allows you to just call the contact in your contacts list, but the people hub allows for editing of those contacts and seeing their cards. I like it this way...let's the phone hub be for calls only and not needing to tap a contact 3 times to call it.

Yeah, I can see the benefit, it's just been over there years of using it the other way, muscle memory ya know. 😊

Are you going to ask in every thread?
:))) sorry 'bout that...but....i didn't get a SINGLE answer....aaaaa....one...and it's your question...i'm a little worried about using my phone as a PHONE instead of a media or some other device...i'm just curious...did you ever used this at least once? i see a lot of people complining about wallpapers...Cortana :))) everyone with it's own 'problems', but this is just a basic feature(i suppose)...that brings me to the conclusion that i might have a problem with this 'new features'...don't get me wrong...i really like the notification center but there are some decisions made by the people working on this platform that make me wonder..."am i using this properly"....:))) it's like a music player that plays the songs just how it want's to :)) like a car with automatic gearbox and manual transmission....i have a part of my brain missig i guess :)))
i thought this forum it's for helping one another...and if i can,i'll help too,i'm not looking for attention, number of posts...i would just want to find a solution to my problem....if this means to get warnings or be banned..or...something...maybe i shoud look elsewhere...for ex...i'll ask my grandfather...because when he saw for the first time a touch-screen display...he said it's the devil :)))) LOL
