Why can't I set up Whatsapp?

I downloaded whatsapp sucessfully but it is taking a long time to set up. I have gone pass the stage of inputting a phone number and have gotten a verification code from whatsapp to verifiy number, the stage its stuck on is when whats app ask to input a display name after that I get a display message “setting up whatsapp please wait”. I have done several soft resets, hard resets unistalling and installing of whats app , all to no avail. Anyone please with a solution.

the latest version Windows 10 mobile 1709 OS and also running most recent WhatsApp 2.17.346.0 (most recent)

I setting up on new phone with my old account WhatsApp number , I migrate my sim card from my old Lumia 625 with OS WP 8.1 to Lumia 950 OS WM10 recently.

I've been told that supposedly no issue if setting up on new phone with old account WhatsApp Number in other so called popular OS A*****, but in this OS WM 10 as so far I know myself experiencing those issue.

@Ronald Sutandi just a few weeks ago, I went from my 950xl to my idol4s because of a shattered screen and set up whatsapp on my idol4s no issues.

@anthonyng thanks fyi maybe idol4s is another OS platform instead my lumia 950 is W10M?? I can reused and set up WhatsApp back on my Lumia 625 however, up to now still can not on my Lumia 950. I'm still wondering...

*edited : sorry, idol4s actually there is W10M too, but I'm wondering still why can't on Lumia 950

Does the phone otherwise work fine? Can you make phone calls, receive them? Other apps install?

@vEEP pEEP yes everything works fine. I can make and receive phone calls, and download all other apps too, and also because I restored all backup apps and setting from my previous phone's one drive cloud. so all the other apps works fine.
In fact, I can download WhatsApp rite? LOL but I can not login stucked at setting up and please wait wait wait....

@Ronald Sutandi since you already reset your phone for (via system, about - reset phone right?) Just curious if you tried WITHOUT restoring back up. Maybe you are restoring something bad. I know it's annoying to set it all up again but I think at this point, worth a shot to get a clean OS again to start over.

@anthonyng yes reset the phone via system, about - reset phone. Thanks anyway for ur suggest and let me share you the result below:

Said that if without restoring back up, I will loose all my history chat, media etc. and am not be able to restore it in the future. so sad to say...

Well, done, let it be lost, and I've tried without restoring back up from onedrive, you know, the result is... the same! still stucked at setting up WhatsApp. please wait. rrrrrr....

Then gone with the beta version, not solved toooooo... double rrrrr.....

Last thing I can do is keeping forward forward and forward my email to WhatsApp support (support@whatsapp.com and one email with request nu.# 7xxxxxxx@whatsapp.com) just to disturb and hoping they will reply, also give feedback via feedback hub!
And you know what, up to now they don't response! only WhatsApp support once replied like below:

Lol I don't consider this complaining. It's just a very clear picture of what you've done so far and the results. I would say wait for the next update and then try again, but that could take some time.

Try: remove the app> check if region/time & date are correct. Set them manually just to be sure > reboot the phone > check if they're still correct > proceed to reinstall whatsapp

Another option: try using a different wifi network

These are just blind shots into the dark. I doubt it has anything to do with your specific phone since everything else seems to be working fine

I had the same problem, but i fixed it. That problem is solved by adding contacts to the phone. You need to add any contact and then, you can access to the whatsapp. Regards

Disable your mobile data connection and try setting up using WiFi only, what may be happening is that the o/s may not be redirecting traffic correctly. Meaning, if you have WiFi and Mobile data turned + connected, the o/s should use WiFi first and if it cannot connect then it should use your mobile data connection.

The issue may be more frequent on a dual sim device.

I've seen this flaw crop up time to time on the L920 on insider builds and is occuring more frequently on my L930... more than I'd like.

Well I honestly wouldn't have thought that would be the solution. Wonder what the actual issue is. Maybe it's due to the restrictive nature of the OS?

Interesting, I don't suppose you can transfer the details to your new number?

You may need another phone, place in your old sim and then transfer?

I think it's server side from Whatsapp as it uses your contact list and everyone elses contact list as form of verification of access. Meaning if someone has your number saved then they can just message you, hence why when you get a message from a number not saved in your own contact list, you are prompted to add the number or block it. Which is also why in the FAQ it says that your contacts need to save your new number.

Since the numbers are always saved to our phones via the phone account, this issue would hardly come up. So it's good to know, you learn something new every day!

That does hurt, I love having history chat even though I never go back to it. Use the Onedrive back up sync from now on... it works well! Went from 950xl with sd card to idol4s, didn't move my SD card, it pulled the history from onedrive no sweat!
