Why does WP central post articles that have nothing to do with WP?

Seriously, and while we're at it- what's with all the New York Times' articles about China, Russia, India, California, etc? I mean, come on guys it's called the NEW YORK Times.

The news York times is a news paper dating back over a hundred years with articles split by section. You would not see fashion news in the sports section. Which goes back to me saying it would make more sense if this was Microsoft Central but it's the WP central.

For real. And do you know when I watched CNN they showed me commercials? It's supposed to be the Cable NEWS Network.

Why does WP central post articles about Surface, Xbox and other Microsoft products when the site is clearly labeled WP central and not Microsoft central? It's almost like they're trying to sell me every Microsoft product? Anybody else thinks the amount of non WP articles is ridiculous ?

I also think the same.
They should change website name to Microsoft Central.
After all we get all the news related to MS.

Anyway I think since wp isn't as popular as Android & iOS ......
The news on WP are very less or you can say that rarely going on something in WP.

So, they bring other stuffs like Xbox, Windows, etc.
And
I like it.

I for one am glad that they post articles about other MS Products. I own them too and it is nice to have one central location to get all things MS. Plus my WP syncs with my Windows laptop and my Surface so they do have a relationship so articles are relevant.

We post those articles because people read them and comment on them. It really is that simple. Toss in the fact that there are not many sites out there doing what we're trying to do, there is a large gap to be filled. Not to slight other Microsoft sites, but we crush them all already in terms of traffic with 4 million uniques a month. So the real question is why don't we do more in regards to the Microsoft ecosystem.

Look at Alexa below. We beat every 'big' Windows site out there, as far as I can tell. If I missed one, let me know.

We did all of that with 'Phone' as our main focus. Imagine how big our community/site would be if we applied the same to Surface, Xbox and Windows? More importantly, it is what our audience wants, which is what drives us to do this. If there is pushback, we are not feeling it.

...when the site is clearly labeled WP central and not Microsoft central

Well, we are going to rename the site very soon to reflect that, making this whole discussion kind of moot. I've said this a few times already, as we ease into a transition period before the rebranding. After which, I better not see any more complaints, lol.

I'm not saying they should talk about other brands in the news. I'm saying the logic behind their argument of people owning other windows products is the reason for the articles is flawed because people own other Android/Sony and Apple products too but stuff like that wouldn't be posted.

Not flawed at all and it is besides the point since we already decided, long time ago, to begin to cover more MS news. Moreover, what you know as the WIndows Phone OS today is not going to remain as Microsoft merges their OSs into one. Calling anything 'Windows Phone' in 2015 and going forward is a big risk for being outdated, much like using Windows Phone 7, or WIndows CE or PocketPC.

Maybe you're right. Must not be a lot of WP news overall.

Compared to what? We post more on Windows Phone than iMore does on the iPhone, or Android Central does on Android phones. There is plenty of news to cove and our site is the most 'global' out of all the Moblie Nations sites to date.

I think it's either a lack of actual WP news or a payola thing.

Or you know, it is just people who respond well to the articles we write on non-WP news. Maybe we just happen to see our traffic numbers and go "hmm, people want more of this".

And Payola? So now we're sinking down to the level of accusing us of taking money from companies to cover news, without any shred of evidence or ignoring the fact that those articles received tons of comments and feedback. Nice.

Look, if we posted articles on the Surface or Xbox and they tanked, we would not waste the money and resources on paying writers to write them. I'm not sure why it is hard to fathom that maybe, just maybe, people like our wide coverage of Microsoft and their overlapping (and increasingly unified) ecosystem.

Regardless, none of this is up for debate. Two things are definitely happening: our coverage is expanding, and our site will be renamed to reflect that. At this point, it's not if it will happen, but when (and for when, we're talking a few weeks, probably). If that bothers anyone, or they want us to remain just Windows Phone Central, I'm sorry, but we're moving on without you. And yes, we will have a filter on the front page to sort through the topics.
