Why isn't my phone charging?

phone is not taking charge

i got my lumia 640 delivered today by amazon.in..i was in the middle of setting up my phone but suddenly the display was gone..i thought battery died and immediately put the phone in charging..it's been one and a half hour but my phone is'nt booting and i think it is not taking charge..what is the problem ?

Check the contacts on the battery and is there a faint burned smell from the USB port?

Also which cable / charger are using?
