why wont my phone go past the start up screen , its straight out the box new

my phone is new i just got it yesterday and it turn on and sits at the start up screen ive tried everything iv enee put the sim card in and ive tried to drain the batterry this is really sad because i havent even got to use the phone yet its a Nokia Lumia 635

What have U tried ?
Soft reset, hard reset ?
Search online for your model User manual, should detail how to soft reset..
Search online for your model Service Manual, should detail how to hard reset (using side keys).

Or simply, return to where you got it & try again.

When you start a phone for the first time... a brand new one... any smartphone... there is a setup process.

Could you describe what you actually DO SEE in a bit more detail? You say it "sits at the start up screen." I can't see what that means from here. Is it asking you anything? Like pick the language you want the phone to interact with you in? Is it just a logo? Is it blank? Is it spinning gears? What is this "start up screen" you see?

Did you bother to charge the phone before turning it on. It may have been so low that it went into sleep mode or froze before completing the startup process. Plug it in and leave it for 5 hours or so and try it again.
