Wireless Charging for the Surface

Will Microsoft or tablet makers develop wireless charging for Tablets/Laptops any time soon? Maybe the Surface 4? I think its time someone (Microsoft) make that very innovative move happen. Even electric cars are working on it, why not tablets and laptops?

Hmmm I think they might wait for Intel's Skylake processors. I read somewhere that is supposed to bring wireless charging and among other things to make devices cordless. I don't have a link at the moment though. I believe Skylake is going to be after broadwell.

I own an HP touchpad and never knew that. lol. I think its time other tablet makers improve on that idea then.

The Verizon (USA) version of the BlackBerry Z30 has wireless charging. I'm not clear on why BlackBerry did not include that in all the Z30s, but they did not.

I thought about how I use my SP3 and quickly realized, wireless charging--where I would need to lay the device flat on a charging pad--would be an inconvenience for me. I don't think I would ever use it. When I'm using the SP3, it is on the kickstand or in my lap. When I'm not using it (When am I ever not using it?) it is in my bag or backpack. At home and at the office it is on power all the time, so I normally just leave it up on the kickstand, with the power in. When I take a sleep cycle, I just close the key cover and leave the SP3 standing.

If I mostly used it in meetings or class, I could see how it would be convenient to leave it laying on a charging pad and grab it when needed for note taking. That is just not how I use mine.

I think a better idea would be making the type cover with that ability so it could charge while connected. That way when they charge $130 for it, it would give you a feature one might want to actually add (charging plate sold separately...:winktongue

Not true. Wireless charging uses magnetic fields to generate an electrical current used to charge the battery. As long as the case has no ferrous materials in it, it will work.

With the Surface you could incorporate the wireless charging into the type cover without adding a lot of thickness or weight. Though this would not work for everything, there are companies who are working on incorporating Qi charging into furniture such as desks and such.

Yep... Had one before my Surface Pro and I must say it's the one thing I miss - once you've lived with wireless charging, it's difficult going back... Same was true of the HP Pre 3 but luckily Nokia offers wireless charging
