My take: Microsoft tested the waters with the cross-platform-compatible Band, but purposely(?) limited distribution. Assuming the article is accurate, now Microsoft thinks people will buy an Xbox One-only Band? Hmm... Trading a significantly larger market share for a much smaller one and hoping any residual public scorn will be minimal. I hate to say it, but I really am not following Microsoft's new plan for success.

Until a new band appears on the store shelves nothing is 100%.

I am following Microsoft's new plan for success.

I'm not following, I didn't see anything about discontinuing the current Band. If there's another band just for XBox One owners, how is this "trading" userbase and not just adding? I didn't read about any differences there are going to be, or that are being theorized. Another band, just for XBox, could mean a stripped down model. You don't need GPS in your livingroom, afterall. I also didn't see that any new features are only going to be in this supposed new band but not the existing one (that could be a point of concern if people might need to buy 2 different bands).

I can see a device being useful / interesting to XBox One users. I guess I just don't see the problem here...

I'm hoping whatever features the "Xbox Only" wearable has can be included in the MS band via software update. Don't make me wear two devices :(

This, IMHO, would make more sense from a product catalog perspective. You have a "high-end" device that can do notifications, interact with the health app, integrate with XBONE, etc and a "low-end" device that only does the last on that list. Price it at $99, or $179 when bundled with Kinect, and it's a winner.

I for one.. would like to see the existing band integrated into the Xbox One Fitness App.. I do all my workouts via Xbox One .. and having an accurate accounting of my performance would be excellent ! As it is right now the Kinect is just a side show and the FP (Fitness Points) are not all that reliable since there are times the Kinect does not accurately identify your level of effort IMO.

If the could use the Band... to supplement the Xbox One.. Bingo ! :)
