Hello,
On my 1520, I never updated to 10166. I'm looking into updating to 10512, but it keeps giving me an error. The error states, "Sorry, we cannot configure your device because it is currently preparing an update. Please install the update & then try again"

Phone update states i have an update ready to download..."Windows 10Technical Preview for phones (10.0.10166.0)"

Is there anyway I can make it dump the 'cache' (or whatever is locking it up) & just go to the newest one available?

Try uninstalling windows insider, and turning off the radios. That worked for me.

Uninstalling the Insider app doesn't remove old update from being available. It doesn't give me any option of which update available, it just shows me the old one. Uggh :eck:

Same frustrating issue I'm having...been stuck with trying to update to 10166 since it came out...now I'm hoping to jump to 10512 and it's still showing 10166 update (which has been stuck on 0% for weeks) have tried uninstalling windows insider and still nothing works...someone sort this out please.

You HAVE to update to 10166 before you can update to 10512. You CAN NOT go directly from 8.1 to 10512.

If you wanted to keep your data, you might end up having to hard reset at some point, before you start installing, go into backup and make sure you take a backup now before installing 10166.

I tried to go that method on my ICON, went to 10166 but, the update to 10512 ended up with a :-(

So, updated to 10166-> hard reset -> installed JUST the insider program and set to fast -> updated to 10512-> hard reset -> restored last backup....

On my lumia 720 Windows 10 Technical Preview 10512 stuck at 0% , its not moving a bit. It just shows downloading upgrade.
what should I do?
Leave it alone for awhile and make sure you plug it into a charger.

Also put it on a surface that dissipates heat effectively, some phones do run really hot (beyond normal) during install or through the migrating process.

Are you trying to download the update through mobile data?, then you can't. because Microsoft allow to download the phone update through wi-fi only. If you are updating through Wi-Fi only then leave your phone idle. (It's MS bug that doesn't show status while giving phone update) after sometimes your download will go to 100% and should be ready to install.
