Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

The battery issues are specific to the phone. My Lumia will last from morning to night... My wife switched to the Lumia 920 and her phone will last a day and a half almost two days. I probably use my a little more.

I installed 1308 this week via Nokia Care Suite for Retail. My battery life has gone AWOL since.

Last night it was on 80% when I went to bed. This morning, it was completely out of charge and had turned off. What is especially worrying is that I had it in airplane mode because I had wondered if a weak mobile signal had been causing greater battery drain during the day.

What could be running in airplane mode to cause such battery drain?

Do you have a battery app? Get an app and track your % per hour.

Under normal non-usage (sleep) my phone will drop to about 2%. Under typical daily use it was usually 5% and then under heavy gaming 20% to 40% with Skulls of the Shogun. After the update though, sleeping use has changed to about 4% and typical daily is about 8%... There have only been two data points so far, so I will see how it fares next week, but a little odd so far.

Mon/Tues/Wed were pre-update. Thursday/Friday were post update. Obviously I use my phone a lot more on the weekend when I am not working, haha.

Well after a couple of excellent days with 1308 my battery has gone back to draining quicker than it should. Meaning it drains when no app should be running.

sucks because the first few days were excellent.

Having had probably my worst day with the battery (80% to flat in 7 hours of inactivity) yesterday it only dropped 40% in 19 hours of light use. Go figure!

Battery life does seem very erratic.

Having taken some great advice about making sure that the network settings are set to maximum of 3G (if you don't have 4G in your area) my battery now discharges very slowly in standby. In fact the battery drains only 1% (sometimes 0%) during 8 hrs overnight. I am easily getting 24hrs with moderate usage. My last charge was at 00:23am (this morning). Its now 21:53 and I am at 46%. I have 3 background tasks running plus Skype installed.

Having said that it can drop 8-10% in an hour for no known reason (under no use).

The time left in the screenshot is B.S., but I manage to get over 24 hours. This includes ~10 hours on either LTE or HSPA+ and streaming music part of that time. I practice battery mgmt (don't leave wifi, bt, gps on when not needed, minimize background tasks, back out of apps rather than just pressing the start button, etc).

This is my actual battery usage with firmware: 5951.1249 after 24h... pretty good.
I tried 2 different firmware 1308 but both were unstable with huge battery drainage and signal problems.

Heavy usage-5hrs
Moderate usage-10 to 12hrs
Light usage- 15-20hrs

Playing games like Temple run and asphalt 7 drains battery at greater percentage.
After charging 100% played Temple run 1.45 hour straight from 100%it dropped to 16% :/

Re: 920 battery life and overheating concerns for newcomers

.snip.
One quick tip that i would advise is to open gps at all times. It helped improve the battery life so much for me up to the point that I think this is a wp8 OS problem. Maybe there is a problem where programs trying to gather location info goes into a loop and drains battery? Doesnt matter.
.snip.
.

I have also observed this. I need to do some more testing to be sure. But so far I have had weird battery drain with the location service turned off.

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

I've been having serious battery discharging problems with my Nokia Lumia 920. I had to charge it after 4-6 hours at least twice a day. I have done all battery saving settings I have found but no luck. However I discovered that I had this WPCentral app's Live Tile settings on. Once I disabled that I started to get many times longer battery life. My battery now lasts all day with heavy use. I'm so pleased now.

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

I installed an update to my phone I think Thursday night, ever since then my battery takes 3 hours to charge and I only get maybe 4 hours of use after the charge. I have had my phone since Thanksgiving and have never had this problem before. I went to bed at 9 last night with it at like 93% and I woke at 4:30 to it saying critically low and charged it (still charging as I type this). How can the battery go that quickly with no use? I have no apps running and tried not using it much yesterday to see what is going on, but still can't figure it out.

On another note, while at home; I noticed that times I all of a sudden don't have service, or I have LTE service, or I have 4G service. So I don't know if it is my phone searching for service that is killing it considering I have no apps running. I only have 1 live tile and that is my address book. Any help would be appreciated.

Better Battery Life?

Since I have updated, I kept my GPS on without knowing and my phone lasted all day. Was that supposed to be fixed?

Go to settings -> cellular/mobile network -> highest connection speed - change that to 3G from 4G. Should fix it for you!

What I've learned so far with my Lumia 920:
1) Battery life is pretty inconsistent - one day it may last 8 hours, the next day about 5 hours, using same exact apps for similar amount of time.
2) Inconsistency makes the battery indicators useless, especially "estimated time remaining" which tries to approximate the battery life based on previous discharge rates and since discharge rates are pretty random - it can never approximate the correct time. Same goes for many battery status apps which I have tried.
3) WP8 is extremely bad at managing system resources and allows random apps to "misbehave" and "hiddenly" consume a lot of power at random times... Rebooting your phone every day kind of fixes that, but pretty annoying :-(
4)Turning NFC/Bluetooth/WiFi on or off doesn't make much difference, at least for me, especially after the fresh reboot of phone and without opening any apps.

Soo... Yea, long story short: Lumia 920 has good "idle" discharge rate, which becomes crappy shortly after I run and use some apps (Twitter/WPCentral app/CNN/Engadget... Even browsing the web using the built-in IE immediately causes like 16%/hour or higher discharge rate) and stays crappy until manual reboot of the phone.
Really hope Microsoft will implement better power and app management for next WP8 update! Maybe a better "task manager", like on Android...

Wow, you lot seem to get great battery overnight. If i take it off at 100% and leave it overnight it'll lose about 15-20%. And this has been very consistant. Flashed it numerous times and turned everything off. Gonna try airplane mode tonight.

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

I've never had battery problems. If i leave it overnight when fully charged, it is still 100% in the morning. That's with everything on. Email, Weatherflow, WP Central app etc. All with Live Tiles. I don't run a battery app either. If you do, uninstall it. They drain battery in my experience. Don't know why people are having problems with WP 8. I have a Lumia 920, and it has been nigh on perfect.....

Here's what worked for me - and now I get almost NO drain overnight (or any time the phone is in standby)

Set highest connection to 3G
screen set to low brightness (its enough for me, in fact the medium and high seem too bright and wash out the blacks a little)
ALWAYS have GPS enabled
Leave Bluetooth off unless you need it
only allow background tasks to run for applications you really need - of those that I can control I only have 3 enabled
screen timeout at 1 minute
tap and send turned off
location ALWAYS turned on
battery saver OFF
WIFI ON - but have set it to switch off when the screen times out (careful when listening to streamed music when screen off - it will eat your data plan)

In bold are the biggest differences I have found to battery life.
