- For all those looking to leave VZ: https://www.cellbreaker.com
Not bad at $77 to break a line. Been contemplating it myself. Sick of VZ pricing, I barely get any data @ 1GB shared between 2 lines costs $135, daylight robbery. I used to excuse it by their coverage, but tbh it's not been all that great where I am, lots of occasions where I don't get any data coverage and I live in the middle of a major city.
Picked up an AT&T Lumia 635 to try out on Straightalk or AT&T, see how it goes.- Share

- Lumia Icon on Verizon....
Ok, So I decided to downgrade my phone back to WP8.
NSRT 1.5.0 is saying that it will install the 1028.3566.1417.0047 Firmware.
We will see if I get pushed back to WP8 or keep WP8.1.1
I know that Cyan is not available yet.
I am doing this more as a test to see if there are any further updates or anything at all.
And just to see what happens in general.
The Software is 4.29GB in size. It'll take a while to complete.
I will post back my results.Last edited by Tepid; 09-26-2014 at 01:46 AM. Reason: Correction for calling the 1417 software.
09-26-2014 01:17 AMLike 0 - ^This is really the point, it appears Verizon really doesn't care about losing a few hundred or a few thousand customers. I only use them because I have to at work, my personal lines are all AT&T, and no its not more expensive, with my company discount Verizon would cost me about $12 a month less with the same phones and plan I have with AT&T, that's with the discount, without it it would cost more than AT&T. I'm just fortunate that AT&T coverage is as good or better than Verizon where I live and work.

Thanks, Verizon!09-26-2014 08:52 AMLike 0 - Rubino's winky-face obviously implies that he knows something that we don't. Either Cyan is REALLY close, like the next day or two, or Denim is close, like the next week or two.
Given what we've heard about the release schedule, I'd bet on Denim in the next week or two.09-26-2014 08:54 AMLike 0 - Yes, we did. See below. Not really sure what happened there. At this point, not even sure if he was telling the truth or not.
Another day, and more disappointment from Big Red. Tcman88 said that the exclusivity agreement with HTC ends this month. So we'll probably see T-Mobile and AT&T announce the HTC One M8 with Windows, then Verizon will release the update a couple weeks after that.
Thanks, Verizon!09-26-2014 09:04 AMLike 0 -

- Below are some twitter happenings that may be worth paying attention to.
https://twitter.com/gregwardo/status/514849396656054272
Also - this actor, who i've never heard of, but apparently has a decent twitter following, has been ripping on Verizon a bit for not releasing the update. He even mentions this thread.
This is just part of it. We need more people with social media influence calling out Verizon.- Share

- I'm definitely leaving Verizon, but I haven't decided if I should wait for my contract or not. I bought a Nokia 928 on contract on launch day and outright bought my Icon. I'm pretty sure I have about 6ish months left. For a while I was saying I was going to be out after next week, but I'm going to have to outright buy a Nokia 1520 to make sure I get a QI/32GB version. In addition to the ETA that's a lot of money. Plus I may get stuck with an outdated phone with the new one coming out. If this isn't fixed soon, I'll do it regardless.09-26-2014 11:26 AMLike 0
- Last person I spoke with said exactly thisThe latest update I have on your phone is next month. No ETA as to when that will be pushed out. Typically, the manufacterer pushes out the update to a limited number of phones and then moves to the next set of phones. You will get an alert on the phone once the upgrade is pushed to your phone. I wish I had a specific date at this time to help you out.09-26-2014 11:44 AMLike 0

Well, let's hope he's right (I assume he actually means a limited number of Verizon phones first)!- Share

- There is no Cyan released for Lumia Icon yet. Nobody knows if we will need to downgrade or not to get it yet (hopefully not, considering the most recent update that was sent out by Microsoft to fix this issue for a large number of phones/carriers around the world).09-26-2014 11:58 AMLike 0

The coinciding thread about this topic in the 928 forums has a whopping three pages, whereas, we're at an elephantine 40!09-26-2014 01:08 PMLike 0 - The OS version is unrelated to the firmware version. A phone can have the same OS version and different firmware. 1028.3566.1417.0047 is the number for Black with updates.09-26-2014 01:14 PMLike 0

- I'm currently running developers preview on a lumia Icon (Verizon). I've gone back and forth between wp 8.0 and wp 8.1 at least 5 times and the overriding reason to downgrade has been that the phone would heat up and the battery life has been reduced about 30%. The wireless connection has been weak as well but I've lived with it. I've been pining away for Cyan just like every Icon owner. I'm really hoping for a fix for the battery and heating issue the most.
Three days ago I was troubleshooting things with my Surface Pro 3 and I changed the wireless channel setting on my router (cheapo unit from ATT) from "auto" to channel 11. It didn't fix my tablet issue, but I noticed that my phone would startup as soon as I pushed the power button. As the day progressed, I noticed that the battery drain was more like WP 8.0 and the phone didn't seem to get hot while surfing the web. I don't know if anyone else has tried this and it might totally be a fluke, but it's been 3 days and one more DP update since I fixed the wireless channel to 11 and the phone seems to be running so much better. It starts right up, doesn't get super hot and I'm getting much better battery life (took if off the charger at 7:30 this morning. I've made 3 calls, surfed the web about 30 minutes and I've been listening to audible for about 2 hours and the battery is at 68% at 3pm. That's more like what I would get with WP 8.0.
I'm still pining for Cyan, but at least the phone is more useable while I wait. This time of year always makes me look around at the latest greatest in phones and, while there are great options out there, I still really like this phone the best. The size is great. The camera is fantastic and I just really prefer the metro interface over any other. I even skinned Galaxy Note 3 with a launcher that looked like metro...right before I traded it in for the Icon :). Choosing a phone is really feels like it's coming down to aesthetics for me these days and windows phone simply looks the best.- Share
