Listen was one of the better ones, but it didn't work right overall.

I have to rely on Music Drop because my phone won't connect to the computer anymore for no reason at all. This means album art gets lost. MPATool no longer works, so I really didn't have another choice.

Using another music app still means the volume control window links you to the awful new app. It also doesn't auto-update for new music, so if I downloaded something from the store, it wouldn't show up.

Just too many issues and overall not worth it for me anymore. :(

MPA tool works just fine for me on wp8.1.

Which kind of proves what a pain in the rear end it is to code on this system. :p

Not necessarily true, What it shows me is that the team working on Xbox music are either a group of idiots, not testing their own software or are falling to the pressure of a public that has the patience of a dog with a slab of beef within inches of their noses.

MPA tool definitely doesn't work.
Bunch of idiots you say? That covers it. It shouldn't take a year to code a decent music app when you already have two functioning ones (Zune+ Music and videos hub)

I can confirm that MPA Tool can no longer place album art. It can place artist pictures so long as you use the old app.

What saddens me the most is that Windows Phone is a platform I love. I would never go back to Android because I don't like it and I profoundly hate Google. But I very much like iOS. Most of us are not inconditionnal fanboys/fangirls. A lot of us have been defending Windows Phone and encouraging people to choose it as it was a lesser known OS. Especially since the app gap has been getting thinner we've been able to respond to the eternal "But there's less apps".

But now with this XBox Music app, for people who are music centered like I am, I can't tell them to get a Windows Phone anymore. Because the truth of the matter is that Apple nailed listening and managing music since the iPod in 2001 and have improved it. Even Android has a pretty decent music app (I've never tried Google Music).

Now Microsoft apparently had a good thing going with the Zune (I've never tried it myself) then made the Music Hub which was not as good and now the XBox Music app which is horrible.

I know Microsoft will eventually get there. But they already had it and sort of wiped the board to start over. A bit like they did with Vista when they had a system almost ready but decided to go and start over. We had Vista for years until they released Windows 7 which was great. Same thing with Music. We have to use a lesser unfinished product until they come up with the finished version. Like Windows 7, it will probably be great when they get there. But current users have to settle for less and new-comers will be disappointed and move away from the platform like they did with Vista.

An update every two weeks is not going to be enough unless the updates become a lot more than just small features like audio scrubbing smoother animations, UI fixes and small bug fixes. There are a lot more major and urgent corrections to be made!

Oh an before I get told to write this on uservoice, I already did: http://xboxmusic.uservoice.com/foru...331-make-it-good-before-people-leave-the-ship

I have exchanged an email with Nils, the developer of MPAtool, and he told me that there are several fundamental issues and changes with the new app, thus he cannot figure out how to bypass these. He will try to make the app work with the new music app, but can't promise anything :unhappy:

Xbox music pass not working

Just signed up for a free Xbox music pass. Thinking about leaving Spotify for Xbox music. The problem is my icon won't recognize my music pass. I'm running 8.1. Any suggestions?

It can take a while for your license to show up. Even when mine initially activated, for a couple of days it would tell me I didn't have rights for playback.

I will say with the latest update that the lagging/black screens to load artist and album views seem to have all but gone away.

My biggest frustration right now is the "could not play file" error. I got it this afternoon when playing music I had transferred from my local PC, no DRM required. I had to reboot to clear it up. I assumed up to this point that those words were connectivity issues, but maybe not. I'm still hopeful that they can get this cleaned up and ready for prime time.

I am fed up of rebooting again and again but the problem doesn't go away until I reboot the phone.

I'm having an issue with my Lumia 920 earphone/headset..

After 8.1 updation, whenever I plug my headphones, there's no sound coming from the right earphone. When I pull the jack, the sound comes from both sides.

Any ideas ?

But why do you need a robust and amazing app like MPATool when you have Xbox Music changing all your tags for you! Nothing like having your Billy Joel albums tagged as Avril Lavigne! :D

Yeah, that's a joy. I also love how the app now separates my album into up to three albums. Regular, bonus tracks and limited edition. That way I can pretend to have more albums than I really own.

I know many people have been using the "classic" music interface. I have been having huge problems with it and have given up trying to use it. I have a lot of music that says I have in my cloud collection, but I do not. It also doubles my music and has multiple listing of artist, even though the spelling appears to be the exact same. I have deleted and re synced my music so many times, I do not want to do it again. The point I am trying to make is that there is not some hidden great music app, it has big problems too. Microsoft does not do anything half-***, when they want to mess up the music experience they went all out.

I can't understand the whole concept Microsoft is following. The Zune HD was an amazing music player accompined with a great software, but it did fail. Why? Because they did not release it outside the US!!! I hunted that thing for ages till I got one! Then they scrapped it, kept the software for WP7 and created a usable music player for the phone. Then WP8 came and they dropped the software and replaced it with half-a** sync apps, dropped wireless syncing, Zune social. I loved the social and checking on my friend play counts, what were they listening to. And along came WP8.1 with a music app that has no rating system, fu**s up all of my tags or cannot even read them and there is still no gapless playback which an old second generation ipod nano could already do and it is slooooooooooooooooooooow. And my favourite part is that if you live outside an Xbox Music supported country (we have spotify, rdio, itunes, deezer and so on here, but noooo, not that one) you won't get artist backgrounds, playlist syncing or smartdj, I mean radio, because they had to change that name for some unknown reason. Why do they keep dropping and rewriting everything? And every rewrite keeps getting worse. I can't understand this.

This thing is simple.

We need

1. An app that will not change our proper tags, because we are capable of doing our tagging and sorting. Who has a non tagged, messy collection, I don't care retag it, have a switch or ask on first run.
2. Syncronizable rating system and a decent sync app.
3. Autoplaylist support, radio (smartdj) in every country, playcount for autoplaylists.
4. Gapless playback.
5. Ability to change artist backgrounds and support for every country. I don't want to stare at a black background.
6. With the new lock screen API it is time to bring back the old Zune HD artist screensaver!
7. Fix the speed.

That is a music app. Is that so hard to accomplish? For the worlds biggest software company?

Hi Guys just want to share..

I dont know if these have been shared before (too lazy to backread)

I was having trouble with my music in regards to album art, duplicates etc. after updating to WP8.1. After trying more than a few times, I get the results I wanted. The "Music" folder on the phone is read-only/write protected. meaning you can't delete/alter its properties completely from a PC.

What I did is delete everything from the phone Go to Music > Songs > select all > Delete > ok.
after this just wait for a moment for the library to be empty once emptied get offline (WiFi & Data off) then restart the phone.

after phone restarted, copy again your Music library from PC > phone and viola..
you'll notice the album art, duplicates etc. will be resolved.

To be honest, I can live with everything else going on with the app, my biggest complaint (and the one keeping me from updating) is that the MPATool doesn't work for it so there is no way for me to set album artwork and artist pictures. :-/ If anyone knows a work around for this, please, please share.

Found a bug:

Songs are missing from albums when two or more songs have similar names.

For example, in an album by various artists I have 2 tracks named "It's On Again" and "Do It Again" ("Again" being the same, and last word in both titles). Only one of these songs (the most recently added) will appear in the database in Xbox Music.

If I change one of the song titles in the tag to "It's On Againo" (spelt wrong) both of the tracks will show up in the database/album.

This is not an issue when using MixRadio or the old 8.0 Music hub.
