Where do you go to select artists and select all? I don't see that option in the 8.1 music app. Thanks

F ound a bug:

Songs are missing from albums when two or more songs have similar names.

For example, in an album by various artists I have 2 tracks named "It's On Again" and "Do It Again" ("Again" being the same, and last word in both titles). Only one of these songs (the most recently added) will appear in the database in Xbox Music.

If I change one of the song titles in the tag to "It's On Againo" (spelt wrong) both of the tracks will show up in the database/album.

This is not an issue when using MixRadio or the old 8.0 Music hub.

Try to delete the song from the phone, restart then add it again.
If you let windows show hidden files you'll see there are hidden folders inside the Music folder which stores data.

Already tried that, deleted all the music from the phone within the app, restarted the phone, re-added all of the music. The exact same thing happens after the database updates, only one of the songs exists in the database unless the title is changed to something less similar.

XboxMusic changed the tags of a song by a rapper to a vintage 1960s pop song, artist and album. Because they had the same title.

Because songs never have the same title.

There can be but one.

I've noticed that the artist doesn't consistently show on my lock screen and there's some random sound every time a song ends

The random sound at the end of the song is not limited to the new music app. It happens on all music apps on 8.1, including mix radio and the old 8.0 hub (with music hub tile app). The sound doesn't happen when listening over Bluetooth.

Sorry my bad, I meant Go to Music > Songs > select all > Delete > ok.

Thanks- so does doing this actually delete the file or does it just delete it from the library? I have 50gb of music I need to delete and re add, which may take a while. I wish you could just reset the database and reindex without messing with the files.

Ok, maybe this is just me, but I have the "random"sound as well, only for me it is not random. To me it sounds like the very first frame(s) of the currently playing mp3 file before the player skips to the next song.

Yep, thats what the sound is for everybody, its a tiny snippet of the song you were just listening to before the next one starts.

Yep, between a very crappy music experience, a phone backup program that wont ever complete for me and lacking a few apps I am seriously wonder why I should stick with Windows Phone.

I've been praising Windows Phone since I've discovered it. But right now I'm surprisingly angry at Microsoft and am actually thinking of jumping ship.

For years, I've been either listening to my whole music collection (about 15 gb) on shuffle or listening to a comedian who makes short sketches in mp3 format which I have in excess of 1500 of. Now I can't do that because there's a lame 100 song limit in the queue. I'm stuck using the Music Hub Tile for this.

Album art is missing (album sleeves, etc.) after I spent HOURS organizing my collection (which both iOS and Android recognize without any problem) and of top of that, I used Windows Media Player to do it! But XBox Music doesn't see it properly or changes it! What the hell?

When you start the app and go to the artists list or album list, it still takes nearly a minute to list them all.

And I repeat, I've never had problems with any of this on either iOS or Android. Android didn't properly recognize special characters like French accents for example. But otherwise, no problem.

I know XBox Music will get better. But they should have waited until it was actually done before releasing it! It's on the store, it's not just because it's a developer preview! They're just contributing to the negative image Microsoft has and, unfortunately, they're hard to defend

I too have stood up for the Windows Phone platform after I jumped ship from Apple a year ago. But this music player has left me pondering my future of using a Windows Phone. I'm actually using Music Player Pro because I can't use Xbox Music in its current state and Nokia Mix Radio has gone a different direction.

But the fact that some of my band's have the wrong artist backgrounds of different bands, some artists don't have backgrounds so it uses the band's album art(which looks crappy), and some bands have lousy pixelated images; it makes me not want to use this. Even some of my album art and meta data is wrong and nothing I can do to fix it. Even on Xbox 8 on Windows 8 I have a similar problem. I don't believe that Microsoft wants to fix these metadata problems and give users customization, I think they want us to see their cloud synced garbage. If they don't fix this music player soon I'm going to buy myself an HTC one M8 which has a way better music player.

I can't believe how much praise people are singing Microsoft for this new update to the music player. Yes, it looks a little more appealing, but for functionality, it just doesn't cut it. They could easily add an in app button to let people change the album art and artist backgrounds but they don't.

Well actually Xbox Music is pretty much only available to people on the dev preview at the moment (besides Lumia 630 owners) so until they release the whole OS officially technically it's all a beta. And in regard to the negative image thing, people forget that this is still an OS build UNDER DEVELOPMENT and the fact that it is a non-final version with some bugs. The Music app is such an example. So it's silly to complain as if it were the full version because there are still bugs and kinks which will most likely be worked out by the final release. You have to accept some bugs for a developing OS, and MS did say this themselves

They may have taken an apparent step backward in regards to the music app, but heck, for a developer preview I'd say we're all lucky there aren't any major bugs in it (I had the iOS 7 beta 1 preview on my iPhone and all the wireless radios would not work)
