The wild success of the accessories lineup of the iPhone and to a lesser extent, the S3, made me think about phone design a little more.
People love the little touches that signify to others how this phone belongs to them. I recall a time where 3rd party Nokia casings for the 3310 were the norm, and how this phone will be identified as that individual's phone due to the accessories. It translated to the iPhone by accident due to antennagate, but one cannot deny the impact and I feel that the designs that go into the casings can be quite elaborate.
Then we have Nokia and to a lesser extent HTC who are using purity of colours to showoff their devices more. With the simplicity of WP's UI design it returns to a simpler time. But casings do showcase the individual as much as the colours Nokia is trying to sell.
So what gives? Personally I love what Nokia is doing now, but the casings and accessories negate much of the point of fabulous design in a phone. What do you guys think?
