Action center useless with 3rd party apps

You'd think my lengthy post earlier would clear up the situation. Clearly some people either aren't or can't read.

Davidp2 as much as I wish that was the case it won't be until Microsoft unlock that feature within the API. I have investigated this on sites like MSDN and also downloaded the SDK and can confirm that it is at present not possible for any third party app.

The fact that Skype and Facebook (both developed by Microsoft I hasten to add) exhibit the same behaviour should speak volumes.

Yup, I will think they already got tons of feedback that their Facebook app does not work correctly with the action center but it looks like either the customer or ms don't care about this inconsistent.

...look...

Your WhatsApp tile shows no number (for unread notifications).
You get a WhatsApp message
You DONT OPEN WhatsApp
You open the Action Center
You swipe away the WhatsApp notification
Your WhatsApp tile will now STILL SHOW A NUMBER FOR THE UNREAD MESSAGE

Your Phone tile shows no number (for missed calls).
You get a Phone call
You DONT OPEN Phone App
You open the Action Center
You swipe away the Phone notification
Your Phone tile will now SHOW NO NUMBER ANYMORE FOR THE MISSED CALL

You have either the "problem" (its an OS restriction) or are someone special with some special version of WP8.1 !

Can someone get this guy to chill.....its just a tiny bug after all....nothing major

This isn't exactly a bug, more of a personal preference. I believe notifications on some iterations of Android and iOS work in the same way.

I sometimes swipe away notifications from my notification center if I am busy and later when I'm free reply to all pending messages via the live tiles.

No one cares about your personal preference. It's inconsistent, it's illogic, it's an API restriction...MS has to remove the restriction or provide a workaround for the app devs.

Dude, just like you don't enjoy repeating yourself, neither do we. So, for the umpteenth time, calm down. Typing in all caps, getting "pissed" at other people in this thread, and telling people"no one cares" about their preference isn't productive. It's aggressive and really off-putting.

We get it. It is an API restriction not an app problem (though not an OS restriction like you have repeatedly said). It's illogical and annoying. But how do you know Microsoft doesn't care about the issue? How do you know that aren't already working on a fix? How do you know it won't be fixed in GDR1?

They made an error, it's in the past now. All they can do is fix it. I don't know what you want to hear from everyone.

Seriously?
How can this be NOT a problem ?
You get a WhatsApp message saying just yes or ok, swipe it away in the action center but the WhatsApp tile still f showed a number (1) for a new message, that's awful and inconsistent !
its not inconsistent, its meant to be.
You swipe away the notification means you acknowledge there is such an event.
The tiles remains remind you that there are unattended event still pending.
whats wrong is that you expect a system to work in a way that it is not supposed to be.

Ok, I got it, then MS should better change the phone, SMS and email apps because they clear the tile if you swipe away a notification in action center.

And after all, what is stopping ms from adding such a small but important feature like the ability for OEMs to add a notification led ?

Well Windows phone is inconsistent in other areas the most glaring one of all is attachments, however I have adjusted to that and rarely send any attachments these days from my phone. If it is confidential info then it should not be in your phone (if appropriate measures have not been placed to enrol your device to work on the go) in the first place in my opinion.

As it is an API restriction there is nothing we can do other than vote on the feature request on the uservoice for windows phone and leave clearly + concise comments why it needs to be addressed.

The Update 1 for 8.1 brings a few new API's for developers.
Does anyone know if they are now able to clear the tile if you swipe away notifications in the action center ?

Not sure about this, but the opposite works ; going into the Tile now clears the notifications from the Action Center, at least from 6snap and such apps.
