I placed a preorder on Best Buy on October 21st.... well, they messed up, although the order is still in the system (as of today). I was patient and waited, since everyone stated that at the WP8 launch we will know more... I know now that I don't know anything. Some time in November....Screw AT&T, I am out... I will cancel the order and just get whatever smartphone I come across first.. This is ridiculous.... I am done waiting

Why don't you get an iPhone 4s/5? It has great re-sell value so you can get the Lumia 920 when it comes out.

They should just sandbag it and call the release date for like... November 31st. whatever, you need time, sure. but put the damn date on it...

my best buy preorder is in, and I've already resigned myself to getting my phone no less than 2 weeks after whenever the actual launch is. see if I get it anytime in 2012 :/

but whatever, not like there is any other phone out there that Im remotely interested in.

If a simple month delay sways a person, probably weren't going to be happy with the windows phone anyway...

Too many petulant children.

I think the point here is that for a launch that is so important to the future of a company they are sure letting another really muck it up.

And, shame on AT&T for being so lackluster in their launch of the new Windows Phone 8 devices. This is a great opportunity to really get out there right after the Microsoft press event but instead I wonder why they're so quiet.

The lack of real activity from AT&T (not a coming soon page) seems like they're saying they couldn't be bothered to actually care about anyone who wants one. Or, even worse, they don't care to get the people who are currently looking for a new device onto the WP8 platform. While those of us who really want a new WP8 handset will wait it out they're certainly not helping those people who are indecisive on an iPhone 5 vs a GS3 and could be swayed to the WP8 camp if they could just see the devices on the way.

Microsoft should've pushed AT&T to announce prices and dates. Lack of that information for so long basically hurts sales of WP8.

Someone at MS might be muttering "Premier carrier my a$$... let's go with Verizon as our premier carrier next time"

I wonder why AT&T was the only US carrier to not have any details for their Windows Phones? Seriously, didn't Microsoft choose them for a reason?

We all knew the release was this fall. How can you be fed up when we haven't even gotten into fall, really? Seems to me you're jumping the gun a bit because you couldn't contain your excitement or accept rumors as just that, rumors. This is why it is always dangerous to get excited about them.

I'm sorry the release date doesn't coincide with your need of a new phone, but the fault does not lie with Nokia or Microsoft.

Please, enough excuses! "Launch" means pricing and general availability info, at a minimum... and these days, typical product availability dates. Microsoft delivered nothing we didn't know back in September at its "launch."

So, then, apologists, what am I supposed to tell my non WP friends who are interested in the 920? Just keep waiting, it has "launched" but we don't know pricing and availability? Oh, and if they don't like it, they're being "petulant children" (because insulting the user is a real path to success in a highly competitive market).

(I am simply advising them to get an 8X from T-Mo in the 14th... I have about had it with the nonsense.)

Actually, if you want to get technical about it, a "launch" would mean availability in the marketplace... Of which none of the OEMs have in the US, yet. Having a date, price etc, does nothing other than give you something to dwell on. What you're referring to is an announcement (to which, you are right - we can generally expect dates/prices and so on).

And how is my original post an excuse? There are 3 months to every season, with Fall having Sept, Oct and Nov. With a Fall release of the phone, as long as they hit shelves by Nov. 30 the mark has been hit.

Back to Friday the 13th Part 2

Well, here is this "apologist's" answer to bmiller.

Tell them that there is no release date announced yet.

If they must have something immediately, recommend something else.

Not that complicated. No need to make this into something bigger than it is. If a person really wants the 920, they'll wait. If not, they won't.

Gotta laugh at the "apologist" remark though. So dramatic and insulting at the same time.

Is like Nokia aggressively wants to fail. How hard is to put a launch date? The embargo is up, release everything.

Yep.

Nothing is available, we have no idea when the flagship will be available or what it will cost, and even though it has "launched," it hasn't launched.

And Microsoft/Nokia apologists expect the world to just sit around and wait for another month or two for a product first announced half a year ago.

Man. The incompetence is making my head hurt.

Nokia is going to have the 920 out this week and next week on other carriers around the world so that should be an indication that the one at fault is ATT.

You guys always blame Nokia for things like making the 920 an exclusive, but this time is it really Microsoft's and Nokia's fault? I mean look at Rogers in Canada. After the WP8 announcement, what happened? Rogers announced that the Lumia 920 is coming... TOMORROW.

Why can't AT&T do that? I blame AT&T. They must still be doing their stupid 10 year long carrier testing.

The embargo was for the firmware. The 920 will be out in a couple weeks along with the inferior 8x. These whiners will look silly when availability is given this week.

The phone will be out in the U.S. by the 11th. The only reason why it hasn't been announced is because they were hoping to re-meet their original launch of Nov 4th. But it's looking like the week pushback is going to stick. The absolute nerd raging that would have happened if they said the 4th then had to push back would have been astounding. Feel free to bookmark this. I plan to.

Blame AT&T

Funny that the loudest complainers claiming incompetence and idiocy on Nokia's part are the ones who had no intention of getting it.

Outrage about a release date for something they don't want.

Where are all the concise details about the Ativ S or even the 8X?

I really wonder why they're probably going to end up pushing it back. Does anyone remember the Lumia 900 and how it was first rumored to come on out April 8th or something like that? Then later it ends up getting released on I think the 22nd? What's up with AT&T? No wonder everyone hates them.

Testing and training. And getting the final build later than expected.

I don't even take winterfang seriously outside of the 8x forum.
