Slai: Yeah, thanks man!! Unexpectedly I got a text that I can get it from my postal office in 2 hours, so the first thing I'm gonna try if the vibration is the same, and I'll have to get it exchanged again... ****ING HOPE NOT! I mean if the third time isn't the charm - it isn't meant to be!

I have a serious issue I have not yet seen yet. As of a few hours ago, it seems my 920 activates the proximity sensor whenever I make or accept a call, regardless whether I have the phone close to my head or not.

I cannot actively end a phone call because my screen is locked and black.

I've managed to hit the "end call" button in a 1/4 or 1/2 split second when it appears if I press the power/screen lock button twice in a row, but it's very touch and go.

Has anyone else had anything like this?? I'm really really annoyed.

I'm having this issue too, and it's driving me NUTS. I thought it was due to a recent update to extras+info from last week, but judging from the enormous amount of dust under my phone, I can't tell if it's hardware or software based. either way, i'm not convinced replacing my device will fix it.

holzlondon - sounds like you replaced your device. has this issue returned?

Are you using a case that is setting off the proximity sensor?

in my situation - no case. just a naked Lumia 920. I had read somewhere that the lighting during initial setup will deem the sensitivity of the sensor, but after multiple resets, I'm still out of luck. WindowsPhone Support sent me to Nokia, and Nokia told me to replace it.

On some level I'm willing to stick it out, but at the end of the day, it's a phone - and I want to be able to have phone calls.

Hi everyone,

I wanted to post my experience on the forum. I bought a Lumia 920 on December 1st. Everything was fine. I used it for a couple calls and people said they could not understand what I was saying. It was though I was breaking up, distorted, or talking in a tin can. Now, a week in. I have noticed everything is fine when I record sound through video, use apps (e.g. voice recorder), or even use speaker phone. So, the only issue I have been having is my outbound call quality is bad when not using speakerphone ( I assume that involves the primary microphone at the bottom of the device) So, today I decided to diagnose the issue as best I could. I turned off LTE using the ##DATA# menu, with no change. I then dropped it to 3G with no change. Finally, in desperation, I dropped it to 2G with still no improvement in outbound quality. I removed my screen protector, but, again, no luck. However, due to my exasperation, I was leaning forward on my arms while talking to friend, and he said he heard me clear as day. So, I fiddled with the angle of the phone. It appears that if the phone is pointing in towards my mouth, with my cheeks pressing against it, the mic is distorted. But, if the phone is held at an angle such that it is parallel with my mouth, the call quality is fine.

TL;DR Version:
If my phone is angled towards my mouth, outbound call quality is awful. If the phone is held parallel to my mouth, everything is good.

So, with that in mind, can anyone confirm this phenomenon? Fiddle how you hold the phone and see if it increases your outbound call quality. It could be that pressure is moving the primary mics, or something to that effect. I am not an engineer, so I have no clue how this magic box works.

P.S. Other than this issue, the phone is fantastic. It is a solid piece of hardware that is easy on the eyes. WP8, while still developing, is fast and dead simple to use.

First off - this is a very interesting thread! Well done all!

So - i have my new Lumia 920, and for the most part i absolutely love it! I appear to have no build-quality or sound issues whatsoever. Happy Days.

However, i am getting a LOT of freezes... i'd say about 10 now in the last 3 weeks!!! Last week i was late for work as my phone froze during the night (at least when my N8 froze, it had the good decency to restart itself  )

Each time it freezes, a soft reset works and the phone boots fine, apart from the fact that i have to reset the date and time each time which is annoying...

I can tell you straight off that there has been zero consistency when it freezes. Sometimes i'm using it, other times i'm not. Sometimes it's warm....sometimes it's cool... It's happened with various apps and not any particular one. This morning my alarms went off fine... I got up, turned all the remaining alarms off (it takes a few to wake me up!) and when i got back to the phone after getting ready for work, it had frozen. There were no apps running at the time and the battery was 100%...

I also have heating issues, but i assumed that this was just because the phone was running a pretty hardcore processor! I don't have battery issues - even had it last 2 days with standard use, but the phone does get warm with prolonged internet use, and really quite hot when running something like cool-remote...

I've also had a bit of difficulty NFC-ing with another 920... Worked great to begin with, but wouldn't recognise the other phone after the 1st attempt..

So my main question is this....

Do i keep my phone or take it back and get another one? i.e - is this freezing issue a software one that is likely to get patched, or are we looking at a dodgy first batch of phones that haven't been built right? Is it worth me waiting a month or two or should i just go change it now?

I love the phone... Yes it's got a few niggles (the camera ISN'T as good as my N8 for the most part, but i reckon Nokia will sort that as it software not hardware in my opinion), But this freezing issue is starting to annoy me a bit! I'll happily wait it out (i've bought an old-fashioned alarm clock) if i know it'll get patched soon... If it's not though, i don't want to leave it too long to get it replaced...

Apologies if this has been answered in this thread already... I've tried to read as much of it as possible but it IS 19 pages long, and i AM at work

Same here. It's a recent occurrence for me, and I don't think it's the dust on the proximity sensor (although there is a ton of dust under the front-facing camera which I'm sure must impair the performance). Whenever I take the phone away from my ear to end a call, it takes several seconds to re-light the screen, if at all. Very, very frustrating.

I received some updates last night for a bunch of settings - various extras+info, nokia settings, etc. Today the call issue does not seem as terrible, but it's still inconsistent and I'm wary to take calls.

Put me down as one with 'dust under screen' issue. Disappointing really. Nokia needs to do a much better job. I think I'll return my phone and wait till these quality control issues are resolved. And i just hope it's not design issues we are dealing with here. Because that is such a let down for this nice phone.

Its a random quality control issue. Mine has it too and I already have another 920 on the way from ATT.

Plethora of bugs started occurring after I tried to fix the Facebook app. Couldn't get notifications, so I deleted and reinstalled it. Also tried to re-add my FB account to "People". This caused it to start crashing. Then moments later, I couldn't even load my mail. Had to eventually just back everything up and do a hard reset.

Fast forward and now I'm a bit skeptical if my battery is okay. Will give it a full run tomorrow. Also, had to reboot my phone once, cause my data was not working after it restored my phone.

All in all, Windows just making me face palm. Probably going to stay away from facebook until they fix it.

Today was the first time I have used 1080 recording on my 920,It was quite hot after recording. I recorded 3 separate session around 3 min long each time I noticed the increase in temperature. Later I was going to make a phone call only to discover my phone will not open any contacts. Every time I tap a contact it returns to the home screen. I love this phone but after replacing my 900 twice I am not to thrilled about these latest problems.

Lots of recent posts about the prox sensor issue and blank screen during calls. This has been discussed on other threads and the fix is blowing compressed air at the ear price. I've had success with canned air for keyboards and the air compressor/blow gun in the garage.

Vibration rattle seems to be pretty rampant issue. At my local service center they said it is a defect and they will/did exchange the phone. Mine is especially awful, it seems like it vibrates so "hard" that it sometimes stops and starts again and I was able to reproduce it server times for the tech.

Heres my Problem as mentioned in other threads too:

Every night i put it on charging Pad and in the morning its dead and i only can rewake it by pressing volume down + on/off button.
Then i have to put date and time again.
Very annoying. Yesterday and other days too i put it into flight mode during the night and it DID NOT FREEZE OR DIE at all.
Basically i have to switch it into Flight mode every night before going to bed or it will shut off during the night only be woken by soft reset. :(

I am experiencing that my Nokia Lumia 920 Freeze seemly at random times, when I try to use it, I have to Volume Down + Power to wake it again. I have turned off: NFC, BT and WiFi.

E.g. I have it laying on my desk during work and when I tap it to see if anyone have texted me, I then notice it have frozen. Or I have it in my pocket while I drive and then when I get out of the car I check my phone and it have frozen again.

However I noticed it is more common for it to freeze if I change "zone" and it goes from LTE/4g to 3G.

To clearify: When I say frozen/freeze; I mean I am unable to get the phone to respond to any input unless I hold down Volume Down + Power to restart then phone.

My current Lumia 920 has an issue where if I talk normally through it (no speaker phone or Bluetooth headset etc), people I’m talking to will say I randomly go very quiet, like I’m walking away from the phone. But if I use speakerphone or a Bluetooth headset there’s no issues at all. Waiting for nokia to get back to me.

My first Lumia 920 had a freezing screen issue, where the phone would work, all the physical buttons worked, but the touch screen wouldn’t respond. Just to mention something else that I haven’t seen mentioned (not that I’ve looked through this entire thread)

Try pressing the phone flush against your face. When I press the top of the phone against my ear and angle the phone away from my face (to prevent smudged on your screen) I've been told I sound muffled. I think it might be the noise cancelling or something.

You seem to be right, just tried that for a decent call, didnt seem to have an issue.
was kinda annoying tho, was pushing the phone into my face, got kinda uncomfortable. guess it'll take some practice to get that bit right lol :p
