Did I make the correct choice in getting Lumia 920?

Ok before we start another one of these threads as im sure there are more of them, here is my phone background.

So I won't post any info about my first phones I got years ago Il start after I got my n95.

So my first decent smart phone was a Nokia N900 (No im not stupid) I love that phone more than anything and I take my hat off to elop for making such a awesome device, and at the same time I wanna smack his head in for dumping it along with the N9. I'm a mobile tech head love phones owned the following

N900 about 5 of them I've purchased

IPhone 4 & 5
Note 1 and galaxy s1 s2 s3
N9
HTC

Anyway im just puzzled to ser why the Lumia cannot do basics tasks?

Why did Microsoft not put a file manager in the OS? This is a serious question btw.. I honestly don't know or googled why.

Are we really going to see an improvement in the OS and apps?

I'm not hating on Windows I love my Lumia 920 but it sucks having to carry my n900 with me all the time for basics. Its kind of sad that a 2007 device can handle anything yet my Lumia can't. I don't want replys saying sell it or do your research before I genuinely want to know why it can't do basic tasks I haven't studied Windows Phone 8 much as I've always had Maemo Meego and Android.

Not a clue what "basic tasks" you're referring to, Windows Phone is the best phone OS available (imo).

Il give you an example. Lets say im on Andriod and I download an app that allows me to download videos directly to the phone I could then plug my phone into PC and just grab the video files from the folder. If I do the same on wp8 you cannot at all get those movies onto your PC. I spent a good 30 mins scratching my head still no dice.

But with IOS and android you can FTP into your phone from a browser and download any file u want. This is what I miss.

Also being able to add any file to email on Android yet limited on wp8..

Is there a file manager in iOS? I didn't think there to be one, but I might be wrong. Android allows a lot of customization, but it takes know-how and want-to to get something you like, and I didn't find it worth my time to play with the UI for 2 days to find a decent-looking, stable version of something. I mean, for the last 6 months or so, I was just using Launcher 7 as a skin to look like Windows Phone, as it was painless and looked how my next phone would (I knew I was going to Windows Phone). I just find iOS and Android relatively unattractive, and I didn't want to spend a bunch of time learning rooting and that.

YES, you will see an improvement. Again, to compare: iOS has gotten one update per year. On Android, I got one update on my device in 2 years that mattered (I also got one tiny update that didn't do anything). It took all of one MONTH to get the first Windows Phone update, and the belief is that 2 or 3 more might come by the end of 2013. You'll definitely see more long-term support with Windows Phone as well. Like I said, Android OEMs basically abandon their devices after a year or one major update. Windows Phone 7 is basically discontinued, and it just got an update. Microsoft seems more into a uniform OS that will update and BE UPDATED long-term. The apps will come, it's just impossible to know when because the developers don't say. We did just hear yesterday that multiple GameLoft games (from the 12 that were announced and altered, the first of which was Asphalt 7) will come in March, so we should have AT LEAST 2 high-quality games coming, my guess being 1 each week (meaning we'll hopefully get 4).

You'll have to tell us WHICH basic tasks your device cannot handle. I have found much more functionality that matters to me (for example, an equalizer and a quality music player) on Windows Phone than I had on my 2010 Android device, and I still like my Windows Phone more than the 2012 Galaxy S III when it comes to UI, Xbox LIVE integration, and keyboard. It's all a matter of what you like, and what you need. So, again, tell us what you're wanting, and maybe we can help you. It MIGHT be something where you have to compromise a bit for a few months or switch to Android, depending.

Umm, two possible solutions on that?

1. Does it now download the videos into the Videos folder on your device? You can plug the device into a PC and use the Windows file explorer to see the Videos folder, in case you didn't know.
2. Could you upload the video to SkyDrive on the device, then download it on your PC?

For the sake of maybe trying it out myself to help you, could you tell me what you are using and what you are downloading?

First of all I don't consider FTP'ing your phone a "basic task" at all, its something most people will never ever need to do and the process of setting up an FTP to work over the internet on your phone is actually going to be above most people's heads. I've got an FTP set up on my android tablet, and honestly its enough of a pain that its much quicker for me to simply plug it in and do it that way if I'm in the same building as the PC I want to put my files on.

Secondly, you can? I can plug in my phone to the PC, then go to my windows phone in Explorer, and then go to the videos folder where all my videos and pcitures and such will be stored. Keep in mind the phone will automatically put videos/pictures/etc onto your SD card if you have one in, so you might be simply looking in the wrong place.

Well at the moment I have a mini mhl hdmi USB cord that I was praying would work for my Lumia but it doesn't. So I watch alot of poker videos and wanted to just get them on my laptop (attached to tv via hdmi) to lay in bed and watch them. No the videos I download from a paid app I brought metrotube the videos don't end up in the videos folder when I plug the Lumia into the laptop. Something so easy seems so hard to do.

^^ Yes I know ftping most people will not do but what option do I have like I said I download all these videos to watch later all I want to do is get filed onto PC SkyDrive is not an option as im always on 3G WiFi rarely so uploading 100s of Mb over SkyDrive is just nuts on my data plan. Besides metrotube don't allow you to share to SkyDrive anyway I don't think

What SD card the Lumia doesn't have an SD slot unless your talking about the built in 32gb storage then no the files I download via metro tube don't show up.
