i contacted htc and a represantative told me:
John, we have knowledge that the update will be released today, however you can contact your carrier to know when they will release the update.

do you know if it is the official 8.1 or just the fix to get the preview update 1 for the htc 8x?thanks!

It is the official 8.1.

so if we get the official 8.1 (i have the preview 8.1)
can we then take the update 1 to finally enable cortana and have live folders?

We need the firmware that comes along with the 8.1 rollout. After that we should be able to install 8.1 GDR1. If Microsoft releases it for HTC devices..

i told her that 8x is a windows phone and i am asking for WP8.1 GDR1

3rd week now and still no update from HTC for the 8X or weather or not the 8S or 8XT will be getting the update, this is poor service by HTC for their older phones, so they can focus more on the M8 handset, they really need to get this sorted as they are still lagging behind Nokia.

Sounds like Microsoft has some issues to iron out on 8.1.1 anyway at the moment. Gdr1 almost broke my ativ, and my 8X with the most recent update except gdr1 runs better than ever. So I'm good without for now.
Maybe the ativ needs firmware update, not sure. But it probably won't get it knowing Samsung lol.
