Joe Belfiore just tweeted: "We're working with HTC to get Update 1 for HTC 8.x phones out. Remember, this is preview! :) Prob a few weeks"

8.x? I'm guessing the x represents S, X, and XT as a universal symbol for all HTC 8 phones? Joe would know whether to put an 8S, 8X, or 8XT...

HTC 8S isn't getting 8.1 update because of 4GB of storage

New phones like the 630 (I don't keep up with Lumias much, correct me if I'm wrong) are coming out with 4GB of storage and an SD expansion same as the 8S, so the idea what the 8S will not be getting 8.1 Update 1 due to storage is invalid. There actually seems to be no valid reason for it not to get the update due to hardware, so there's actually more hope than less. The storage, RAM, and processor specs are present in other phones, so they shouldn't have any bearing.

The Lumia 630 has 8GB of storage and the 530 has 4GB. But as it'll possibly be coming with update one on board, that'd be a moot point.

This.

Also, a reason that some Lumia models got an error with the GDR1 Update was because of storage issues as well. Apparently this had something to do with the install partition that users cannot access and so isn't related to general storage on the device itself?

This is why htc should stick to android, is htc wp8.1 users will suffer, I bet when htcs upcoming phone is released it won't be long before they stop updates to that and claim it's a hardware problem.

Even their Android offerings don't really have stellar support. Trust me, I've been there...
