It is a lie. MS made hardware requirements and it is said WP8 hardware will be supported by the updates for next 36 months. MS will not make this happen cause it will be the biggest fail in mobile industry since WP7 case, and they cannot afford this to happen. Media all over the world will cover that...
HTC 8X not in GDR1 Dev Preview

Almost forgot about the 36-month update thing. They would've had to see the current hardware and stick to supporting low end in order to make that statement. You're right though, if Microsoft and HTC both say it doesn't meet requirements then it'll be a field day. It hasn't been 36 months yet from what I've seen, has it?

Yeah that sounds about right. It became available on 3 in January 2014, and I got it as soon as. The failure is real.
Guys, another chat session with a HTC gave me again some interesting info. The employees of HTC Belgium have received an internal message about Windows Phone 8.1 rollout. However, as expected, no official date. But all the employees will a get a training about Windows Phone 8.1 this week. He says the rollout can start any moment now. He told me that all unbranded HTC 8X devices will get the update straight from HTC. Branded devices will have to wait for carriers (Maybe this is obvious?).

I don't think they are willing to spend a lot of ressources on these devices given there is a HTC One W8 right around the corner...

All theses company's should have sorted this out weeks ago but they would rather drop support when they feel like because its to much work for them. Microsoft do it all the time I was abit shocked that my HTC 8x did not get this update but I got a feeling that after this they will drop support its to much hassle for them. Hopefully this will be good news for all you htc 8x but I got this email from htc this morning so hopefully should come soon

So 8s probably won't get it while 8x maybe...
They are working to fix the issue.

8x will get it for sure. HTC is going to push the official Windows Phone 8.1 + firmware needed for GDR 1

I simply don't understand... If it id a firmware issue... How could they not have (almost) finished the firmware by now?... They have the os for ages now...

Simple reason... they don't want to support the old versions (atleast priority wise) when they already have a high-end one due for release this month
