Latest update and battery life

My Lumia 925 is pretty much dead by midday if I use cortana because it requires location to be on to work. so I keep location off, I rarely need cortana for anything that is location specific anyway why can't they make it work without location services. like google now with location off I am happy with the battery life will last a full day at least.

I've it on my phones

Did you do a hard reset after updating? I did a hard reset on my 1020 and IE11 didn't have the allow to run in background in Battery Saver. It's still available in my 1520 who was updated but not hard reset.

My L925 with location always on has finally gotten better after the update. Charged an hour ago and still 100% with 1 day left. I've been checking 6tag and 6snap a lot too. My L920 has gotten a bit better it seems, but it was already fine for me to begin with.

my Lumia 925 on moderate use... Facebook, SMS, Twitter, Instagram, Messenger, Net Browsing, etc...

Before the recent update I had to charge during the day when I used it slightly more than usually, and the phone did always give a warning at 10 p.m. the latest, even when I almost didn't use it at all. Yesterday it had still over 40 % when I went to bed at 11.30 p.m.

This is a very nice improvement.

My battery seems to be better now. It is at 33% after about 24hrs now but i need to say that it was no normal usage last day. I will check it again when I have a normal work day again.

I will have to monitor battery life. My main concern, and one I hoped they would address is WiFi strength...sadly it doesn't appear that they tweaked it in this update. Ever since I installed the 8.1 preview for developers on my "Icon" WiFi strength is just terrible. I temporarily reverted to Windows Phone 8 using the Nokia recovery tool and once that was done WiFi was through the roof. I grabbed the Verizon update and reinstalled the 8.1 preview for developers and WiFi strength sadly went down again. At least this told me problem, is in the program and, can be fixed. I will patiently wait.

I suspect that the WiFi issue may only be really solved with a firmware update that is optimised for WP8.1.

I get a full day out of my lumia 925 with around 40% left by the evening (10pm). i don't disable apps in battery saver or change any of the default settings for anything. i have WiFi and Bluetooth on at all times (WiFi uses less power than cellular as long as you are always connected to an AP which in London is very easy these days). location services and cortana are never disabled either.

After performing an update i have initially noticed increased battery drain but i tend to find that leaving the phone to work out things for itself it (after approx a week) goes back to normal consumption prior to the update. in this case it has actually become better.

The one guilty culprit i am aware of for excessive battery drain is Whatsapp which i use rarely these days as many people have given up on it and have reverted back to texts (thank god for unlimited message plans) or use things like skype or facebook messenger.

The only thing i do to intervene on battery life is to close all background apps that i don't use regularly.

My phone has been off charge since 7:00AM and it is now 9:29AM my battery is at 83% and i have been reading a book on the way to work on Kindle. i still have an estimated 15 hours remaining on my battery.

I'm a heavy user (whatsapp, twitter, facebook messenger, line all drain my battery really quick, music + video),
If i am on those messengers for a whole hour, i will probably go from 100% to 60% easily... but i always had this problem with 920 and 1020 even before wp8.1.
If on standby tho, i get about -3% / hr~
I still haven't tested if this update improved my 1020 battery yet. Should be able to find out over the weekend!
But this morning on my way to work, I was already down to 80% on my phone after I was browsing the net, downloaded a youtube video, facebook messaged for about an hour. so not a big difference from what i get before this update.

I am thinking if I should do a hard reset..
I didn't do a hard reset when I updated to windows phone 8.1.
Did you guys (the people with 1+ day battery life) do a hard reset when updating to wp8.1 or to this update?
And did you guys restore or start fresh?
Thanks :)

On 520, without wipe (8.1 was a clean install though). Battery life became worse, over 40% drain without usage during the night. Not many apps are allowed to work in the background, FB, Skype, Messenger are the main battery users. Just did a wipe, will see if it helps.

I also installed Zello after the update, but removed the app as I had serious problems with it (the "Echo" user being continuously added, it is always going offline then online, can't stay on a screen for longer than 3sec, etc.).
