Losing wi-fi connection

I've noticed that if the phone isn't plugged in it will seem to lose wifi connection. Whereas my Lumia will always retain the wifi as it sits "asleep."
Is this a common problem or just a "feature" of the HTC phone? or is that a WP8.1 deal?

None of the above as far as the M8 is concerned. Don't recall any WiFi signal complaints with this phone. With my icon the signal would fade as I moved away, say downstairs from the router or outside. With my M8 it stays strong on all parts of my home inside and out. Your router is ok? Had you had your M8 long enough to know if this is a new issue ? as far as being plugged in or not, I'm only plugged in overnight, never need to charge during the day, so I'm never plugged in and WiFi signal is awesome.
