Lumia 1020 camera module making weird 'fan' noise?

The noise that you hear is propable the OIS. It's a bit annoying.

Hi there, I had this issue, it's since been fixed.

Yes, it will be covered - presuming you didn't cause any obvious physical damage (i.e. drops, bashes) that would have caused it or exposed the phone to liquid damage. I had mine repaired under warranty, and they simply swapped the camera unit out, very quick and easy for the technicians to do. It seems I was quite lucky compared to some others on this thread.

I wouldn't worry too much about getting this - it's a very rare issue, millions of 1020's have been produced and only a very tiny amount have ever got this. Of course, the reason it can be easily read about online is because those with the issue are - understandably - going to be more vocal about it.

Same problem. I have the phone for 14 months now and it suddenly makes this fan noise and the screeching sound.

From the beginning the video was also very grainy and noisy with blue pixels al over the place in unnatural lighting.

Going to send it back under warranty, however, already considering asking for money back. As I've just read in a few forums, most of the times Microsoft Nokia tends to be horrible in customer service. And the problem doesn't get solved.

It is not normal. I have two 1020's. Nokia branded and Telus branded. The telus one makes the sounds, the nokia one doesn't.

Seems like we're talking about two different issues here, a screeching sound that happens when you focus the camera, and a fan like hum that seems to come from the OIS that can be heard to a greater/lesser extent. In my case the fan like noise seems to be too noticeable:

My phone is out of warranty so I've ordered a replacement camera module to try out.
