Lumia 640 XL Bugs + Defects

Saturated look.

That has happened to me on my 640 too. If it hasn't happened much, I would say probably not to worry about it. For me, it happened so often that I had to send it in for repair. MS replaced something, but I'm not sure what. Since getting it back, it hasn't happened much at all, so I don't know.

Thank you for the fast answer. I hope it won't tend to happen more often in the future.

I've had the 640 XL for about a month and fairly satisfied with it: it's sturdy, feels nice, it looks nice (blue one :-), it didn't cost much (aprox $150 dlls) and generally gets the job done. It does have some quirks that I don't like: it's touch sensitivity is sometimes wacky (doesn't respond on various attempts and drives me nuts), "Hey Cortana" can't be installed :-( (I imagine it's because of 1 GB RAM) and every once in a while, apps will shut down. Also, sometimes the brightens fluctuates, but this is not a biggy (my Surface RT did the same thing). I was also hoping that it would work with a Bluetooth keyboard (MS Wedge), but it will only accept input of the letter and number keys, no navigation at all (hoping this might change with W10M). So far, no brown or red spots on a white screen (fingers crossed).

Guys I have a problem with my 640 xl
Push notifications are not working probably through cellular data . some time it comes delayed or desn't come at all
Notifications works well only through Wifi and cellular data MUST be off. If wifi and cellular data are both on the notifications don't come as usual.
I tried soft reset and nothing changed
I changed the data sense to unlimited and still have the problem
anyone can help please?
Update:
I've found this:
in data sense when I set ( limit background data ) ON and ALWAYS the notifications works fine and vise versa It doesn't work whe I set limit background data to OFF !!
It stills a problem cause I can't use Whatsapp for example when I set limit background data ON

If you set your background data to off, the app can not work in the background and can not update it self from internet etc. so thats why there are no notifications.
In my case the only apps I left wokring in the back ground are weather, facebook messenger and the phone update program. Everything else is stopped, because I don't need no notifications from Facebooks, 6tag and others. I check them manually.

The expired Office products I've had in the past always worked reading and even saving files and displayed a Product Notice "Word hasn't been activated. To keep using Word without interruption, activate before Day, Month, Year" under the File Menu. I currently have an expired Office on my HP Stream 7 that came with the office 365 1yr free subscription and it does exactly that. I do not know what happens after that. Mine will expire in 3 days and I will add the info here. I believe it will still read but will miss most basic functionality.

edit1: according to this article you can open the files and read, but you cannot edit. Office will enter "read-only reduced functionality mode."

On my 640 and 640XL I seem to have an issue with what sounds like a blown out speaker. At times (not real often) I'm on a call or make a call on speaker phone and all of a sudden it sounds like the speaker is blown out. If I hang up and call back most times the issues goes away. And I should add it never seems to happen while playing music through the speaker. I'm on the latest version of the WM 10 and it's been happening on earlier versions as well. I can't remember if it happened when I was on WM 8.1. And yes I've done resets and all that stuff I'm trying to figure out if it's the phone app or what.

Since upgrading to Windows 10 mobile, I haven't been able to get Glance screen to work on my 640XL. I am on the fast ring on Windows Insider and I have downloaded every update available the past few months but nothing helps. When I go to the Extras menu I see Glance as an option, but when I tap and go the Glance menu it displays the settings for about one or two seconds and then just disappears. Anybody have any ideas? I know it sounds strange but this is one of the main reasons my sim card is in the Nexus 6 most of the time instead of the 640XL.

Hey there,

Recently my sister bought herself a lumia 640xl but it has the dreaded surprise reboot bug. I've tried everything at this point with no success (soft reset, hard reset, new sim card, no sim card, put the sim in slot N2, with/without sd card, a different sd card, the phone's up to date and no new updates were found). Found a microsoft fix it thingy a couple of days back, ran it for like a 30 minutes then it decided to stop because "the repair process took to long so we decided to stop it" and now i'm blessed with a nice "your phone cannot be repaired". We're thinking about returning it since she's still within her 14 days grace period. I'm quite appaled by the fact that microsoft released something so unreliable into the market (the thing reboots mid conversation, really practicall). Is there something i can do if the place she bought it decides that the "phone is fine" and refuses to give the money back?

You should be able to get your money back. I think this reboot issue is random.

Not sure if this should go to W10M subforum or here, but here it is. I have installed W10M insider preview (now on latest, updated several versions ago). Now I need to get it back to 8.1 and the problem is that recovery tool instantly crashes when I connect my phone to the PC. Is there any solution to this problem?

640's shots in low light are disappointing... MS should deal with it soon... I hate to compare it to other budget android devices in the night.

Use the camera360 sight app instead of the standard camera app and you will see a good improvement in picture quality. Still not fantastic but a big improvement.
