Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

does anyone know how to disable Location Services for SMS??? for some reason while i'm texting i'll see the icon pop up that it is getting my location. i have it disabled for CNN (which is running in the background), i have Set Time Automatically turned OFF, and i have no other applications running, including no reporting of anything to Microsoft. any idea what else could be asking for my location? i have a feeling this is part of the battery issue.

also, i don't want to fully disable location services because i want it to work when i launch 4th and mayor and Search when i open them without having to constantly toggle every time.

i dont think it's possible to turn location services off but have it only on for certain apps. if it is i would like to know how to do this also.

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

I will have owned this phone for 2 weeks come Thursday and on each charge my battery has improved.

http://s17.postimage.org/eu9o2jdv3/wp_ss_20121125_0001.png

Usage

Chive - Live Tiles
IMDB - Live Tiles
Twitter (Use both Rowi & Ocell) - Live Tiles
All Email on push (30 a day incoming)
125 SMS
4 Hours on Bluetooth in car
25 mins call
45 mins music
7 night photos (Football Match)

10 hours for a modern day smart phone with that usage is VERY reasonable IMO

You must have a super 920.

I've fielded 5 texts, emailed 5 messages, cleared my box everytime I get cyber Monday junk. 5 min in Weave and 10 min in the people app. I'm at 54%. Off the charger since 6:30, it's 3:30pm now. Oh and I added one appointment to the calender.

I've factory wiped the phone, turned off NFC, the only background tasks are battery level, network dashboard, and the weather channel.

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

I think that is a gross exaggeration of a problem linked to a small segment of Lumia 920 owners. Hey, I don't use NFC so its disabled. WiFi is on almost all the time as is Bluetooth for me because I've got an awesome headset. I don't sync with the cloud on Xbox Music and at most I'll play a game for eight minutes on my lunch break. Has my phone gotten warm? Yes. Hand warmer hot? Yes. I had Android phones that would do that. Have I since drastic drops in battery life? Well, yes. But, I was seriously using the phone. I'm not quite understanding the venom behind the comments regarding the performance of this device.

Its obviously an exaggeration. I and many other Lumia 920 owners don't have to turn off every service and setting to get decent battery life from their devices. I never though the "just turn everything off" advice held water because we are talking about a smart phone here. Might as well get a feature phone if we need to turn everything off.

Thing is my first week of use was really shaky with the 920. My battery life went from 6hrs to 18hrs over the course of that first week, and that was with two complete battery drains and soft resets. I was able to turn most services back on and retain the decent battery life. I was also having regular overheating issues (not just getting a little warmth after usage either) which have dissipated but which I can still recreate at anytime when using Skype (making that app a no-go). At the very least there should be concern with peoples out of the box experience with this device.

This is getting ridiculous - we just end up switching more and more features off... completely ruins the experience that everone has been waiting. I think nokia should change the hashtag they popularize on twitter from #switch to #switchoff

It's just a temporary thing until Nokia rolls out an update. Besides, some of the stuff on this phone actually is pretty useless.

Once again many of us if not most aren't turning everything off, that's a placebo for most people. The battery drain rarely hits for me, certainly not enough to prevent me from enjoying the 920.

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

this is weird, my phones battery died like goodbye dead and I just sat and watched tv for an hour or so then decided to try and turn it back on and it turned on with 0% and has been running for over an hour on 0%. I'm typing this right now and battery saver is off. Weird

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

Battery % increase behavior.

On two separate occasions, battery percentage increased after restarting my phone from dead battery or crash. First, my battery died, waited about 30 minutes turned on without charging and it was 29%.

2nd time, my phone crashed due to uno and i saw that my battery decreased from 46% to 32%, then a few minutes i checked it was back to 46%.

Now this time, i saw that my battery was 34% driving home. I checked on the way home without a restart or crash or battery dying and it increased to 36%. I get home wash the dishes so about 20 minutes passed and now its up to 38%. So two incremental increases over the past hour with the phone still working fine. Weird.

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

well over the past 3 days my battery life has gone from 5-6 hours minimal use to nearly double that. I've had my phone in the same state, all location services turned off, nfc etc. I havent done anything different as far as charging goes. Letting it get to 5 or 6 % and plugging it in. its been 9 hours since I took it off the charger and I'm at 49% at close to 9 PM PST. Also I've narrowed down a couple of apps that drain the battery alot. Baconit, I like the gallery view and just swipe to see pictures. about 15-20 of that my battery takes a big hit. As well as Blueprint (tumblr app) browsing the 27 pages that are allowed also takes up a good amount of battery.

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

My battery sucks so hard and I'm running out of things to shut off except the phone itself. Sad part is even when people aren't touching it it is tanking, so that's not a solution either. lol

I can hammer my Note 2 and walk out of my office with 70% life left. I babied my 920 today and walked out with about 44%.

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

Just curious. Any relation of battery performance between wired charging and wireless? I do remember that my battery first wasn't that great. I think it is better now. I have always charged it via micro usb, haven't used the wireless dock yet.

Should there be a difference? Is it ok for me to use the wireless charger without damaging my battery?

I have both, I see no difference.

Im sorry but you cant compare the note 2 to the lumia. The note has just over 50% more battery capacity.

I don't expect them to be equal. But I'm looking at my use with the Note 2 vs. my use with the 920. Either a bug, a metering issue, or the OS is a battery hog?

RE: lumia 920 Battery Issues

I hear ya. My one x mops the floor with the Lumia in regards to battery life, camera in the day (99% of all my photos) and music. The problem is I want it to be the other way around.

Just curious to know is Note 2 in 3G mobile network and Lumia 920 in 4G mobile network ? ... setting Lumia 920 maximum speed as 3G in mobile network, can make a big difference for your battery ....
