New Lumia 830 : back cover uneven fit around camera bulge

Just got my Lumia 830 yesterday and the camera bulge feels recessed into the back cover.

When passing a finger across the back, you can very definitely feel where the cover ends and the camera bulge is. The gap is prominent enough that I can (carefully!) balance the phone on my finger nail on the edge of the cover where the camera bulge ends...

I have the green cover fitted, but the included black does the same. The covers are very will fitted otherwise, snug and perfect everywhere else. There is no leeway of the cover around the bulge: it's not 'popped' up.

It feels as if they forgot to put the last layer of glass/plastic on the camera bulge that would make it flush even with the back cover. To this effect, the camera flash is not covered by the same glass/plastic that covers the rest of the 'black dot' comprising the camera bulge (see pics) : is your flash under the same glass/plastic if the rest of the camera bulge?

Anyone else have this? What to do?

I took some pics that show the gap : http://1drv.ms/1rrmOTr

Fantastic phone otherwise, very pleased!

I believe this is designed to protect the glass camera module from resting on flat surfaces. I know it's more or less there in all 830s.

Ok, thanks, that's reassuring.

I think the edge of the back cover around the camera should have been more rounded or tapered; as is it will catch on anything it encounters.

Meh, first world problems! ;)

Just bumping this up as I've noticed the same thing on my new 830 and wanted to confirm.

The lip's edge is not uniform around the camera hump. So, the lens is protected as it sits lower than the lip of the cover, but at the top where the flash is located it's flush and unprotected. I already have scratches in that area after just a few days of ownership.

So, that's normal? Seems a bad choice....

If you could possibly take a picture to show this. I looked at my 830 and I'm not seeing this on my phone. The raised edge around the entire area where the camera lens/flash are is very uniform. Entire glassed area is below the surface of the back cover.

Yep, same here!

Well. I'll try my black cover and compare (the phone came with black and green). Seemed strange to me that only a portion of the glass would be protected.

Thanks, guys.

Well...

While I had the first cover off I discovered that it's actually not the covers, but the entire glass lens assembly itself. It's not situated properly with the top end with the flash raised. It's easy to see while looking closely.

I don't have a problem "living" with it as a manufacturing error as long as lens performance isn't affected. It shouldn't be.

On a side note: The covers are cheap, poorly designed, and a pain to work with (the black's fit was different than that of the green). I'll grade those as a fail.

I see the same issue on 2 830s that I've gotten for family members. To me it is the only (minor) fit and finish issue on the phone. Being able to tuck the SIM and SD card under there without slots on the side is nice though. Just a shame because they nailed the fit around the sides of the cover.
