I've also sorted out everyone's display group and title respective to their position here at wpcentral. Permissions are all kept the same however, it's simply a more fluid look.
I've put myself and George into the purple Writers colour though we still have the same permissions. I've put both Big D and ronbo as the Moderator green colour but you both still have the same Admin permissions etc. and Dieter is the guy in red. Changed it all as a test to see what it would look like, looks alright?
Only thing is, "Administrator" is such a bland, generic term. On a forum that isn't part of a network of sites is perfect as an Administrator you are governor of the forum. However, the title Writer is self-explanatory - I write things for the website. Administrator doesn't say much, a user may think "do you own the SPE network? Are you an Administrator over all the sites?" and might not understand what your position is. When it's part of the big picture it just seems slightly misleading to the end-user when I'm a writer and you're a moderator the forum.I have worked real hard to earn the title of Admin I wear it with pride plus the color red appeals to me. I am sure you wouldn't like it if someone removed the word writer from your title and you shouldn't because you deserve to have that under you name.
Thanks for understanding,
Dave

For Dieter on the other hand, it fits since he's the backbone of each site.
IMO of course. Wasn't a permanent change, just altering how it would seem from a reader, as opposed to ourselves.
I think I know slightly more than an average writer since I've been involved with community management and forum administration for almost 8 years. I've been in the days of forums used in terminal (on LAN of course) and the likes of IPB 1.3 through v2 and v3, as well as phpBB 1,2 and 3. Not to mention I've held an IPB license for the past 5-6 years as well as a XenForo Beta license. Heh I was even part of the staff team in the days of Mokata. This is why I stated that Admin, Moderator and Member are the three default groups in any given forum solution. This is when a forum is not part of a website (which is what they were specifically designed for and majority of forums are not a part of a website or script).I can't expect you writers to know everything.... lol In the forums that is how its done Admin, Super Mod, then Mod. Take a look around at the other websites like AC where Cory, Phil, and Jerry are the admins followed by Super Mods, then Mods. (<I'm one of those over there) I believe Dieters title is Commander and Chief or something like that unless Phil changed it.
I didn't decide what words would be used that's just the title given to me by Dieter and if you look around that is how it is handled on all forums. Dieter chose the title Administrator for me, I would have to go back a few years to find the email but I believe he said something like "How about I just make you an admin so you can take care of that stuff yourself" or something like that. I an very proud of that title and I wish to keep it so please don't change it again.
No harm done lets just move on,
Dave
Go for it.As well as the above, I'm sure we can look at removing some of the groups that are no longer required - specifically TreoCentral etc.
Funny thing is, Ronbo is still an Admin. Get your facts correct before you blow your horn at me sunshine. As for authority, it has little to do with it. If you notice, I dropped myself to Writer, and Dan is displayed as Head Editor as that is what we are. Admin is a generic term (like I said a million times already) and can mean absolutely anything.wtf?!!!
Ronbo was an Admin here before you guys even showed up.
Disrespectful!
I have my facts straight, sunshine.
Ronbo has been in these trenches as far back as I can remember.
You chose to strip him of a Title. Yes, it's just a 'Title'
And this is just a hobby, so who should even care?
Whatever.
It was a small alteration to see how actual rank title within the site would reflect on the forum (which I've explained 10+ times now). I did not strip anyone of any title, nor did I remove any permission at all whatsoever. Ron can easily go into the ACP and change it or I can change it back for him should he so wish it. Do you actually understand how little this change is in the ACP? It's literally a drop down menu selection for DISPLAYED user group. This was switched from Admin to Mod, which was to reflect what positions are currently held when taken into consideration the integration the forum has with not only the main website (which you guys don't have any access to) but the network itself.
So no, actually you don't have any fact straight at all. You assumed I removed his permission, when I haven't. Why would I remove his permissions as an Admin? I don't have that authority at all. Trust me, you will lose this argument since you have zero backing of your ridiculous accusation.
Exactly, it's a title, and again my point; for you this might be a hobby. For us this is more than a mere volunteer position on a forum. It's a part of our day-to-day goings. Look at Dan, he pours an incredible amount of time into the site, along with Dieter.
The title Admin is misleading and is barely used on other huge forums that are a part of any given CMS. I don't see the change from Admin to Moderator to be such a huge deal, if you persist to look at it as ranks that actually mean anything other than your actual position here, then I took a massive step down from Admin to just Writer. If I was being an incredibly selfish prick who kept my title as Admin and completely demoted you all then fair enough, but running a simple test to see how it would look is just hilarious to cause this much tension.
Should I have asked first? Why should I have? How would I know how it would look without changing it for everyone? Dan changed his back in moments. Plus it was vital to get a real reaction to the alteration. Anyway, I grow tired of this petty situation and your "whatever" statement displays to me the level of maturity you wish to remain on.
G'day.
